Dachau Folk Festival 2025: Einfur after two strokes and a happy parade!

This year's Dachau Folk Festival opened its doors on August 9, 2025 with a magnificent parade. A proud 700 participants, including musicians, traditional costumers and numerous clubs, gathered on the Ludwig-Thoma-Wiese in Dachau to kick off the festival with a celebratory parade through the old town. Under the direction of conductor Michael Hernek, the parade's pioneer, Sabrina Schmidt, led the colorful procession on her horse. Mayor Florian Hartmann also didn't miss the spectacle and rode along in a carriage with his family, while representatives of the twin towns of Fondi and Léognan were also present.

The festive atmosphere was further encouraged by the brewery teams from Augustiner and Spaten. The people of Ampertal in particular formed an honorable line when they marched into the festival tent in order to properly honor the celebrations. After the traditional tapping of the first barrel at 12 p.m., Mayor Hartmann announced the much-popular message “O’zapft is!”, which made the hearts of festival visitors beat faster. The mascot “Retti”, presented by the festival host Rettinger, also brought joy to the young and old guests. Clarinetist Veronika Zeiner expressed her enthusiasm about playing music at the folk festival, adding another musical highlight that contributed to the festive atmosphere.

A traditional festival with history

The Dachau Folk Festival looks back on an impressive history of over 350 years. It all originally started with horse racing, and today it is an important event for Upper Bavaria and parts of Swabia. Every year the festival, which takes place in the picturesque setting of Dachau's old town skyline and directly on the Amper, attracts over 300,000 visitors. The unique combination of marquees, rides and restaurants creates an unbeatable atmosphere that is very popular with both locals and tourists. Families in particular look forward to the offers on children's days and family days, which make the folk festival an unforgettable experience.

There is also good accessibility: just 5 minutes from the S-Bahn stop, visitors flock to the Ludwig-Thoma-Wiese and fortify themselves with traditional Bavarian delicacies.

The grand finale with fireworks

Another highlight of the folk festival is the spectacular fireworks display over Dachau Castle, which delights many spectators every year and represents the crowning conclusion of the festival. With all these attractions, it is no wonder that the Dachau Folk Festival is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in Bavaria. The next edition will take place this year from August 9th to 18th and promises to once again establish itself as a popular destination for young and old. These festivals show again and again that Bavarian culture is alive and still offers space for tradition and conviviality.
