Samba festival in Coburg: traffic information and P+R service for the weekend!
The Samba Festival in Coburg, a special highlight for the Franconian city, attracts around 180,000 visitors every year. From July 11th to 14th, Coburg again became celebrated to celebrate the colorful Brazilian lifestyle and an important economic engine for the region. Organized by Rolf Beyersdorf and Christof Parrzyk, the festival has developed into the largest samba event outside of Brazil over the years and is an absolute must for all cultural lovers.
The preparations are in full swing, which is why the city also has to adapt to the increased number of visitors. In this context, the city announced important traffic instructions. From Friday, July 11th, there will be extensive changes in city bus traffic. The Albertsplatz and District Court stops are eliminated all day. Further stops such as Mohrenbrücke, Mohrenstraße, Steinweg and many more can no longer be made from 2 p.m. For everyone who is not dependent on the car, this means a little more planning. Because the night lines are also only on the Löwenstraße, Höhe Rückerschule.
Special transport offers and P&R service
To ensure mobility during the festival, the city offers a park & ride (P&R) service. This commutes every 15 to 30 minutes from the HUK-Coburg-Arena and the district office to the city center. The P&R stops are signposted accordingly. For only 4 euros per person (under six years free), visitors can easily drive back and forth. On the festival days, the buses are used as follows:
- Friday: 6 p.m. - 3 a.m. every 15 minutes
- Saturday: 12 - 4.30 p.m. every 30 minutes, 4.30pm - 3 a.m. every 15 minutes
- Sunday: 12 - 2.30 p.m. every 15 minutes, 2.30 - 4.30 p.m. every 30 minutes, 4.30pm - 7.30pm every 15 minutes
A special feature is the range of extra trips where a special tariff of 3 euros per person applies. It is important, however, that the usual traffic associations of the transport association are not valid and are available for information and ticket sales on site during the nights.
City of Coburg in festival use
The Samba Festival not only has cultural but also considerable economic value for the city of Coburg, as a DWIF study shows. Around 8.5 million euros will flow into the health insurers of hotels, gastronomy and stand operators at the weekend. This development has a positive effect on urban sales and reaffirms the need for traffic adjustments.
The city has blocked various parts of the city center for drivers. From 2 p.m. the Oberer Bürglass, Theaterplatz and Grafengasse are affected, and later other areas will be added. The drivers are asked to observe the signage and bypass the blocked zones in a large scale. Emergency routes must always be kept free; Referral vehicles threaten to be towed.
The Samba Festival is an impressive spectacle that combines people from all over the world and this year also makes the city a lively center of joie de vivre. Anyone who does not want to miss the event are welcome to visit Koburg and enjoy the festival to the fullest. Further information and details on ticket sales can be found on the official Samba Festival website as well as the current traffic information Wiesentbote and NP Coburg.
