Prince Hubertus takes over the protectorate of the Coburg Rifle Society!

An important event for the Coburg Rifle Society was celebrated in a solemn setting on August 12, 2025 in the “Golden Cross”. Chief Rifleman Stefan announced that Hubertus Michael Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha had taken over the protectorate over the company. This news is making waves and bringing a breath of fresh air into the traditional community.

The festive evening also included the presentation of the last protectorate badge from Princess Carin of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Jens Uwe Peter, the last senior rifle master. This was a moving moment that underlined how important the connection between the Duke's House and the Rifle Society is. This was followed by numerous honors for the long-standing members who were able to shine through their commitment and loyalty to the society.

Honors and awards

Stefan Ulrich was one of those honored to receive the Protectorate Badge of Prince Andreas. He has been a member for 40 years and is also active on the entertainment committee and as a firefighter and flag bearer. But he wasn't the only one who received recognition: several members were recognized for their many years of loyalty, including:

  • Ehrennadeln in Gold für die Mitglieder Stefan Schober, Peter Ulrich und Reinhard Mohr.
  • Ehrennadel in Silber für Jürgen Fischer, Horst Schreuer, Frank Deuerling, Martin Gottfried, Christian Ulrich, Armin Pütz, Roland Eibl, Rosemarie Mohr, Rene Kob, Andreas Gundermann, Nino Worowsky und Bernd Reinhardt.

Carl-Christian Dressel, Vincent Hernandez, Günter Schlenzig, Kerstin Schmidt, Monika Schmidt and Jürgen Wallowski were honored for 25 years of membership. There were also many names on the roll of honor for 40 and 50 years of membership, including Günter Basel and Reinhard Mohr.

A look at Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha

But who is the new protector? Hubertus Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was born on September 16, 1975 in Hamburg. As the eldest son of Andreas, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, he has an impressive biography. After school, he joined the Bundeswehr and led a career that, after various positions in Germany, ultimately took him to New York City, where he worked as a lawyer for Deutsche Bank.

He only took over the management of the former ducal house in 2025 and has been strong in public relations since then. As the proud husband of Kelly Rondestvedt, with whom he has three children, he brings a breath of fresh air into the ducal house and also wants to preserve and maintain his family's legacy. This role as protector will certainly be enough for him to put his ideas and visions into practice.

By taking over the protectorate, Hubertus shows himself to be a real support for the Coburg shooting society. This solemn ceremony is more than just tradition; it also symbolizes commitment to the community and will resonate in the region for a long time. The shooters can look forward to an exciting future.
