Large construction site on university campus: bus lines differ-that's how it goes!

The University of Bayreuth is facing a significant renovation: From Wednesday, July 9, 2025, extensive construction work will begin on campus. This measure is expected to take two years and means that residents and students have to adjust to changing closures of different streets in the eastern part of the campus. The university, the city of Bayreuth and the Stadtwerke Bayreuth have developed a diversion concept for city bus traffic, which remains valid throughout the construction period.

With the closure, there is a number of changes for the bus lines that operate the campus. The “cafeteria” stop is canceled for all lines, and a new central meeting point for all buses is set up at the “Uni-Administration” stop. In addition, replacement stops are set up on the "Universitätsstraße", which should act as a contact point for the city buses.

Details on the line changes

There are specific adjustments that are individually available depending on the bus line:

  • line 304: ends at the “Uni-Administration” stop with a special stop area in front of the Institute for Computer Science.
  • lines 306 and 316: operation of the new “Universitätsstraße” stops begins on July 15th.
  • line 310: operates both the stops "Uni-Administration" and "University Road" towards Wolfsbach.
  • line 326: also receives the stops "Universitätsstraße" and "Kreisel Hohlmühle" south of the botanical garden. [ Stadtwerke-bayreuth.de ]

The “Mensa” stop will be in both directions from June 30th for line 306. The replacement stops will be put into operation for the buses traveling out of the city from July 9th and from July 15th for the buses. [ Bayreuth.de ]

The Stadtwerke Bayreuth ask the passengers for understanding the upcoming restrictions and recommend regular information about changes. Current information is available both on the website of the Stadtwerke and via the VGN app. Notes at the stops also keep passengers up to date. Despite the challenges that the construction work bring with them, one hopes for a smooth process and a quick progress of the measures.
