Discover habitats for animals in the Röhrenensee zoo!

On Friday, July 11th, the time has come again: The Stadtgartenamt invites you to an exciting tour of the Rohensee zoo at 5:30 p.m. Under the motto "Habitats for wild animals and plants", interested parties learn everything about the diversity that flourishes in our domestic green areas. The meeting point is the llama enclosure at the south end of the zoo, and participation is free of charge. This event is not only another highlight in the summer offer, but also part of the accompanying program for the current exhibition "Neat sloppy", which can still be seen in the ecological-botanical garden of the University of Bayreuth until October 12th Class = "Source_1"> https://www.bayreuth.de/fuehr-lebensraeume-fuer-wildlebende-tiere/

In times of climate change, the protection of these habitats is more important than ever. Climate change threatens natural habitats and forces animals and plants to adapt. Researchers, such as Gian Reto Walther from the BAFU, warn of printing through intensive land use and the additional challenges that threaten fixed habitats. Many species that rely on moist and cool conditions have difficulty finding suitable habitats because they are becoming increasingly scarce. https://www.bafu.admin.ch/bafu/theme/thema/klima/dossiers/magazin-2023-2-dossier/bedrohte-lebensraeume-was-passier-wenn-natur-und-wald-veraendern.html

The importance of green areas

green areas are not just showing for people, they also have an essential function in the ecosystem. They offer habitats for many different types and contribute to biodiversity in the area. If possibilities are created, such as the planting of different tree species, these habitats can become more resistant to heat and pests. This is becoming more and more important because invasive types such as the Chinese hemp palm or the book printer not only displace domestic plants, but also endanger the ecosystem services. https://www.bafu.admin.ch/bafu/theme/thema/klima/dossiers/magazin-2023-2-dossier/bedrohte-lebensraeume-was-passier-wenn-natur-und-wald-veraendern.html

Current research also shows that protected areas are often too small and are in the middle of intensely used areas. This is a big problem, because many of the most susceptible ecosystems need larger areas to survive. Suggestions for improvement include the enlargement of protected areas and the creation of corridors to promote the exchange between the habitats. https://www.bafu.admin.ch/bafu/theme/thema/klima/dossiers/magazin-2023-2-dossier/bedrohte-lebensraeume-was-passier-wenn-natur-und-wald-veraendern.html

Even in social discussions, the focus is increasingly at the sensitization of the public: awareness of the importance of nature and the necessary environmental protection must be strengthened. The contact to nature in childhood, as well as guided tours in the zoo, can help win the younger generation for the topic. This is particularly important against the background of the challenges that climate change brings with it. https://livinggreen.eu/die-Effects-de-limawandels-biiodiversitaet-der-der-globalen-erwaermung- on-Oekosysteme/
