Bayreuth receives new care base – support for seniors!
A new care base is opening in Bayreuth, which will now provide citizens with comprehensive support and advice. In this way, the city is actively responding to the changing demographic landscape, which has noticeable effects not only locally, but also nationwide. According to that Wiesentbote It is particularly important to improve the care situation for the increasing number of people in need of care, which in Bayreuth could rise from around 4,800 currently to over 5,400 by 2040.
The care base is a joint initiative by the city of Bayreuth, the Upper Franconia district and the health and nursing care insurance companies and is financed by the Hans and Emma Nützel Altenstiftung. The care support center offers comprehensive advice provided by trained specialists. Whether in person, by telephone or even at home – anyone who has questions about rights, obligations or social benefits will receive competent support here. In addition to information, care and support services close to home are also coordinated and various services and initiatives are networked together.
Bernd Hagen, who is moving from the senior citizens' office, and Ines Schramm, who already has many years of experience in the care sector, will head the contact point. “We want to help people organize care and inform them about what they are entitled to,” explains Hagen. This is particularly important because it is loud Bayreuther Tagblatt Around 78% of those in need of care are currently cared for by relatives at home. But the burden is often high, as almost 60% of family caregivers struggle with health problems.
Address the needs
Demographic change is also an urgent issue in Bayreuth. The increase in the number of people requiring care is a challenge that cannot be ignored. In this situation, the expansion of nursing places cannot happen quickly enough, especially since 9 out of 10 nursing homes in Bayreuth are currently unable to accept new residents.
In order to close the gaps, the Pestel Institute is calling for measures to finally be taken to create housing suitable for seniors. There is currently a lack of around 2,700 such apartments in Bayreuth. A renovation offensive and new buildings are necessary to improve the living situation of the older population, especially in view of the forecasts that around 16,300 retirees will live in Bayreuth by 2035.
