Reopening of the Reutberg monastery church: a festival for the senses!

Reutberg, Sachsenkam, Deutschland - The monastery church of the Mary's proclamation on the Reutberg near Sachsenkam is reopened after a four -year intensive renovation period. Cardinal Reinhard Marx will take place on Saturday, June 14th, at 10 a.m. Since the places in the church are limited, the fair is transferred to canvas in the monastery center in order to enable as many believers as possible. Afterwards, a lunch and tours through the beautifully renovated church are planned for all visitors. This event promises to become a festive experience for young and old!

The redevelopment costs of the monastery church amount to almost three million euros, with the financing secured by a combination of federal funds, private donations and contributions from the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. A third of the costs come from the special monument protection program and foundations such as the German Foundation for Monument Protection and the Bavarian State Foundation. The rest was applied by monastery means and private donations, for example by the association "Friends of the Reutberg monastery". This extensive support shows how important the preservation of the cultural heritage is.

extensive renovation work

The renovations began in 2021 and were carried out in two stages. The first step included the repair of the church tower and the roof structure, followed by the church that has been ongoing for almost a year. The old heating systems and soot deposits had severely affected the interiors. A special highlight of the renovation is the rediscovery of almost disappeared murals with the help of laser technology. This work delayed the reopening by half a year, but the results achieved are impressive.

A new lighting concept with modern LED pendant lights and beams ensures a friendly atmosphere in the church. The Loreto chapel is restored with a glittering sky vault and gilded stars, which will set special accents. The heating was also redesigned, with an innovative concept for component temperature and underfloor heating on the gallery.

a place of encounter

The monastery church was closed because of the extensive interior work, and last year the services took place in a converted Salettl in the monastery garden, which offers space for 30 to 40 believers. This provisional arrangement shows how alive the place has remained despite the renovation work. The great interest in reopening is reflected in the numerous registrations of pilgrimage communities and private individuals. In addition, a Mariensingen with Martin Wieland from Bavarian Radio will take place on Friday, June 13th, which is also of great interest.

The comprehensive renovation work at the monastery church shows an example of how important monument protection is for such historical buildings. Financial support is carried out through various institutions, which underlines the importance of the community for the preservation of cultural heritage. Insight into the funding opportunities not only give public bodies, but also private and public law foundations play a crucial role in maintaining our monuments. Further information can receive owners about the lower monument authorities of cities and municipalities.
