Security situation in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district: fewer crimes, but increasing motorcycle accidents!
The Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district will continue to be one of the safest regions in Germany in 2023. According to current statistics, a total of 4,313 crimes were registered last year after excluding violations of immigration law. This corresponds to a decrease of 2.4 percent compared to the previous year. What is particularly noteworthy is that despite the nationwide low crime rate, which alpin.fm states for the district, an increase in certain crimes has been recorded.
The figures from the district office and the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South show that fraud, especially call center fraud, has increased. In 2024, 2,559 attempts at this scam were recorded, although the number of unreported cases is probably much higher. Criminals were able to steal a total of 420,000 euros from 16 successful fraud cases. The police are therefore calling for more support from politicians, particularly in matters of data retention, in order to be able to better counteract these crimes.
Road safety in focus
In addition to increased fraud crime, there are concerns about road safety in the county. Motorcycle accidents are a serious problem, with an increase of more than 25 percent to a total of 134 accidents. Popular routes such as the Sudelfeld and the Kesselberg have already been banned, forcing many motorcyclists to use the picturesque Sylvensteinsee route. District Administrator Josef Niedermaier is in favor of more drastic measures, including owner liability.
The traffic accident statistics show a total of 3,318 accidents for 2023, which represents a decrease of 5 percent. It is also important to note that there were four fatal accidents, compared to eight in the previous year. The drop in home burglaries from 17 to 13 cases is a positive aspect of the statistics, while there has been a worrying increase in sexual offenses - 13 rapes and 73 cases of child pornography were recorded.
Bicycle accidents are increasing
The increase in bicycle accidents, which is more than 20 percent, is particularly alarming. In a region valued for its beautiful cycle paths, this is certainly an issue that worries many bikers. In order to improve safety on the roads, the police are considering increasing speed controls, as excessive speed is considered the main cause of many traffic accidents.
With a frequency of 3,202 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district is well below the Bavarian average of 4,218. Around 67.7 percent of the crimes were solved, which shows the good work of the police and relevant institutions. Given these figures, security in the region remains an important aspect to monitor in the future. The close cooperation between the district office and the police is of great importance and is seen as the key to a continued safe district.
