Pallaufhof Münsing: German Urban Development Prize 2025 for innovative district!
In the tranquil community of Münsing, the “Quartier Pallaufhof” celebrated a magnificent success on August 10, 2025: the German Urban Development Prize 2025 was awarded. This award is considered the highest honor for innovative urban developments in rural regions. Mayor Michael Grasl is pleased with the award and says that it is particularly surprising that the smallest and southernmost participating municipality won the prize. “This is a wonderful sign for our community,” he says.
The jury’s verdict highlights the district as an “extraordinary mix of innovative living and community”. This impressive development includes not only a multi-generational housing project, but also a community hall and the new town hall, which was only inaugurated in April 2024. These facilities are old friends that were built on the foundations of a typical local long farm.
A home for all generations
The Pallaufhof is more than just a residential area. It was realized between 2018 and 2021 and offers living space for 24 parties in two long buildings that create space for a variety of apartment types - from one-room apartments to seven-room corner houses. The construction method is based on the original building structure and thus creates a harmonious image in the center of Münsing.
The architectural design, predominantly influenced by the architects Wolfgang Brennecke and Bernhard Peck, honors the local tradition. The buildings have stylish wooden slatted curtains that give the facades a special charm. In the open gardens, which flow into the landscape without fences, in combination with the meeting places, lively spaces are created for the residents.
A cultural meeting point
The newly designed wooden community center forms the cultural heart of the district. Here culture, church and nature merge to create a lively meeting place for the village community. The Münsingen municipal administration is housed on the upper floor, while rooms for art and events are available in the basement, which are also accessible to the neighboring community of Eurasburg.
The award is nothing less than a great success among the 85 projects submitted, which also included contributions from cities such as Dortmund, Dresden and Leipzig. In Berlin, Mayor Grasl accepted the honor together with the architects. The German Urban Development Prize is endowed with 25,000 euros and has been awarded for 45 years, which underlines the significant recognition for the project.
The Pallaufhof district in Münsing has not only captured the hearts of its residents, but also shows how rural communities can awaken to a new life through innovative concepts. The jury made a clear point: the future is lived here – and there is more than one reason to be happy about that.
