Construction site chaos in Augsburg: road users have to prepare!

There is currently a lot of work to be done in Augsburg: Numerous construction sites are affecting traffic and are causing diversions and restrictions in the city. The Mobility and Civil Engineering Office has taken the trouble to inform citizens about the current construction projects. A look at the coming week shows that there are some important milestones that drivers and pedestrians should take note of. The weekend from July 11th to 13th, 2025, when Friedberger Straße will be completely closed, requires special attention. A diversion via Nagahama, Amagasaki and Berliner Allee will be set up as the road surface is being replaced. The construction project is expected to last until mid-July at the most, so that smooth traffic flow should be possible again quickly.

Another full closure will begin in Augsburg on July 7, 2025. This time it concerns Karwendelstrasse between Christleseeweg and Rappenseeweg, where the renovation work on the roadway, sidewalks and bus stops is entering the second phase. These cuts are expected to last until the end of 2026 and should not go unmentioned for anyone who lives nearby or regularly uses this route.

News from the construction industry

In addition, there are new construction sites that could cause congested roads from the beginning of July. In Elisabethstrasse, the street will be completely closed parallel to work on district heating pipes, while Neuburger Strasse will be narrowed. These construction measures are expected to last until August on Neuburger Strasse and until October on Elisabethstrasse. Building construction work will also be underway in Katharinengasse from July 7th. Access is guaranteed for pedestrians and residents, but there will still be full closures that will last until the beginning of August.

For the city of Augsburg, Zwerchgasse is also affected, where a district heating pipe has been laid since Monday. This measure means that the entire Zwerchgasse and Kirchgasse are closed from the junction with Spitalgasse. However, residents can access their properties at any time and the work is expected to be completed by the end of the year, according to the Augsburger Allgemeine reported.

Ongoing measures and restrictions

A number of other important construction projects also continue. For example, Inninger Straße has started construction work on the water, making entry and exit impossible. This work is expected to last a week. Eberlestrasse is also affected by renovation work, where the asphalt surface is being replaced. Here too, a closure between Augsburger Straße and Kazböckstraße is expected until the end of August.

For drivers and pedestrians it offers ADAC a helpful overview of current traffic conditions and construction sites. These great tools not only provide information about traffic flow, but also forecasts for the chosen departure day and time, making trip planning much easier.

Overall, passengers and road users in Augsburg will have to prepare for the coming weeks and possibly adjust their routes. It seems that the city is doing everything it can to sustainably improve the infrastructure, even if this means some temporary diversions and waiting times. If you are informed early on, you can plan your routes better so that you can reach your destination on time.
