Breitengüßbach suffered its first defeat of the season against Aschaffenburg!
On Saturday, October 28th, 2025, TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach suffered a bitterly needed defeat against the Aschaffenburg Baskets. With a narrow final score of 61:64, the team experienced its first defeat of the season under head coach Mark Völkl. The absence of Marlon Stephan and Jonas Klaus was particularly painful, as their absence placed additional strain on the team. Despite a committed performance, the home venue in the Hans-Jung-Halle could not carry the spectators to a victory.
The game was exciting and balanced from the start. After a few minutes it was 7:6 for Breitengüßbach, but the Aschaffenburg Baskets reacted quickly and pulled away with 9:13. A short recovery allowed Breitengüßbach to equalize to 15:15, but ultimately the first quarter was lost 19:21. The home team's defense improved in the second quarter, leading to a 10-0 run and a 29-21 lead.
Intense game with an unfortunate ending
Despite a halftime score of 37:32 for Breitengüßbach, weaknesses emerged in the second half. In particular, the weak three-point rate of only 15 percent (3 out of 20) contributed to the ongoing nervousness. Aschaffenburg got within 43:42 in the third quarter before Breitengüßbach slightly increased the lead to 50:46. In the final section the game was characterized by strong defense. In the 33rd minute it was only 53:52 before Breitengüßbach moved ahead to 59:54 thanks to points from Jebens and Trummeter.
The drama reached its climax when Aschaffenburg equalized to 61:61 with a three-pointer from Haller. Aschaffenburg's last throw with the final siren made the decisive score 61:64. Despite the defeat, Breitengüßbach remains in second place in the table with 8 points, level on points with Leipzig, just one win behind leaders Weimar.
High expectations for future games
The game results from Breitengüßbacher showed a mixed performance, led by Trummeter with 12 points, followed by Jebens and Lorber, who scored 10 points each. The next challenges are already ahead, and the expectation is to implement the strategic improvements that have been made, after recently winning against TTL Basketball Bamberg with 70:58 and being unbeaten in all games of the season so far, as TSV Breitengüßbach also highlights on its website.
However, sport is not only characterized by victories and defeats. A recent study of sports injuries in basketball players shows the most common types of injuries and risk factors. Ankle and knee injuries are common among players of all genders, especially guards. This is an additional challenge that Coach Völkl must definitely face when planning and composing his squad.
With full concentration on their next games, TSV Tröster Breitengüßbach will strive to find the form necessary to get back on the winning track and prepare the fans for the coming challenges of the season.
