Apprenticeships in crafts: Over 80 unfilled places in the district!

The new training year is just around the corner in the Aichach-Friedberg region, and the situation on the training market is anything but rosy. As the Augsburger Allgemeine Reportedly, there are still numerous apprenticeships in the trades unfilled, although the first training courses are already starting in three weeks. According to the Swabian Chamber of Crafts, there are over 1,000 open training positions in the region, with around 80 positions waiting for potential apprentices in the Aichach-Friedberg district alone.

What is astonishing is that this number is probably even higher, as it is assumed that not all companies that offer apprenticeships are listed. This clearly shows that there is great potential here that needs to be exploited.

Skilled labor shortage in the craft sector

The shortage of skilled workers is a trend that is not only evident locally, but also nationwide. There are over 150,000 unfilled positions in the skilled trades across Germany, where around a third of all trainees work Statista clarified. The decline in the number of apprentices in the last few decades is particularly noticeable: If you compare the 342,000 apprentices in 2023 with over 600,000 in the 1990s, the extent of the problem becomes clear. The Chamber of Crafts is also intensively committed to training in crafts.

A variety of apprenticeships are available, including jobs in construction, wood, metal/electrical, clothing and health. Taking this path is the first step into a promising career, because anyone who is skilled with tools and teamwork can advance to the master craftsman exam and beyond.

Practical support when looking for an apprenticeship

For everyone who is looking for an apprenticeship, the Chamber of Crafts a practical platform: the free internship and apprenticeship exchange. This can be filtered by profession, region and start of training. The new app “Apprenticeship Radar 2.0” also helps young people find the right companies. Using this app, users can create profiles, search for available apprenticeships and internships and even send applications directly.

In addition, the Chamber's training advisors are available to provide personal support. It remains to be hoped that more young talents will soon decide to take up the many vacancies in the trades and thus revitalize the industry.

The selection also includes the most popular training occupation, automotive mechatronics technician, which will have around 61,000 apprentices in 2023 alone. Careers in the electrical and metal industries also attract many interested people, while the clothing industry remains well in the background with less than one percent of trainees.

So it's time for both young people and companies to get involved in tackling the shortage of skilled workers in the skilled trades. Because one thing is certain: the possibilities here are almost unlimited - you just have to take the first step!
