Biodiversity in the Aichach-Friedberg district: New mowing project started!

In a remarkable step to promote biodiversity and sustainable agriculture, the project "Mowing utilization of road support green and other public areas" is currently on the agenda. Initiated by the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture, it is actively supported by several partners, including the Aichach-Friedberg district and the Aichach-Friedberg landscape maintenance association. Particular attention is paid to the upcoming Mahd in Sielenbach, which is to take place next week, as lra-aic-fdb.de reports.

The initiative aims to create a linear biotope network that not only benefits nature, but also opens up new value chains in agriculture. An important part of the project is the testing of the latest mowing techniques to optimize the ecological mowing. In particular, a new logistics concept is tested to ensure the sustainable utilization of the mowing power in accordance with regional needs.

nature and economy in harmony

The changeover of traditional mulching techniques to cutting mowing methods not only has a positive effect on landscape maintenance, but also on biodiversity. For example, the injury and death rate of small macets, reptiles and insects is significantly reduced by the selected method, as the website of the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Gartenuan informs.

The clearing of the mowing play plays a central role, because it promotes biodiversity in the areas lined with streets. In this context, the material recycling of the mowing is discussed in a variety of ways. In addition to use as a thermal insulation plate or mulch fabric, the possibility of composting is also relevant, since the material benefit follows the circulatory economy law: Material recycling is always preferable to energetic exploitation.

together strong for the future

A network meeting in December 2022 showed how important the exchange between farmers, decision -makers and administration is. Among other things, the cooperation with the Dasing administrative community, which supports the local implementation of the project, was emphasized. The formation of a working group in the district office should also ensure that the project goals are consistently pursued. Talks with biogas plant operators and municipal representatives are therefore at the top of the agenda to develop sustainable approaches for the recycling and use of the mowing.

The prerequisites for such a recycling are particularly promising in Bavaria. Nevertheless, challenges such as the possible contamination of the mowing with road salt or heavy metals as well as the expenses for additional work steps must be put in the foreground. In the long term, innovative technologies, such as pyrolysis facilities, which remain the residual biomasses into high -quality products, should offer the solution, so bmz.de.

In summary, it can be said that the project is not only a valuable environmental protection measure, but can also strengthen the cooperation of everyone involved. The potential economic advantages and the promotion of regional cycles are important not only for nature, but also for Bavarian agriculture.
