A tragic traffic accident enveloped the city of Coburg in mourning on Tuesday morning, August 19, 2025. A 42-year-old cyclist was hit by a pickup truck on Callenberger Strasse and lost his life at the scene of the accident. The 72-year-old driver of the pickup, who was towing a trailer, was driving into the city when the cyclist gave way to him at the level of the escort road. Tragically, the cyclist was not wearing a helmet, which may have cost him his life at that moment. Despite immediate help, he died of severe head injuries. The driver of the vehicle suffered a shock and the accident expert supported the police in recording the accident on the orders of the Coburg public prosecutor.
The dramatic situation on the streets of Coburg is also characterized by a number of other incidents, as the police report from Wiesentbote shows. On the same day, September 9, 2025, a gray VW T-Cross got into an accident with a white Dacia Duster on the Frankenbrücke. Fortunately, the passenger of the Dacia was only slightly injured and had to be taken to the Coburg Clinic for observation. The total damage is estimated at around 25,000 euros, and the Dacia was no longer drivable and had to be towed away. Here the fire brigade supported traffic control.
Further incidents in the region
In addition to the already tense traffic situation in Coburg, another incident is causing a stir. Unknown perpetrators loosened the wheel nuts of a parked vehicle on Rosenauer Strasse between September 9th and 10th, 2025. The dangerous thing about it: Fortunately, this attack occurred in time so that no accident occurred. The police are investigating and are asking for information on 09561/645-0.
In another incident that happened some time ago, two places in the Coburg district were defiled with right-wing graffiti. Swastikas were discovered, once on a cycle path between Schorkendorf and Scheuerfeld and again on a stone in Schorkendorfer Weg in Wüstenahorn. The material damage amounts to around 50 euros.
In addition, an altercation at Rödental train station that occurred on August 31, 2025 is a reminder of the violent incidents in the region. A man may have been stabbed in the face. The police are still looking for the unknown perpetrator and are asking for any relevant information.

Everyday life in Coburg is not only characterized by tragic accidents, but also by crime. An iPhone worth around 825 euros was stolen from a drinks market on Weißanger in Wilhelmsthal. The owner only noticed the loss when she was home and reported it to the police.
In order to make the region safer, the police recently carried out a veil search at the Thiersheim rest stop. A 28-year-old driver during a stop was caught under the influence of drugs and had to be taken to the Marktredwitz Clinic to have a blood sample taken. His 30-year-old passenger had amphetamine and marijuana, which were confiscated.
