The incident began around 5:20 p.m. when the senior was driving his vehicle from Tiefenthal towards the B19.
Unfortunately, the 82-year-old overlooked a Seat driving on the main road, whose 27-year-old driver was no longer able to avoid the collision. The Seat touched the senior's VW, which resulted in an oncoming Mercedes not being able to brake in time and also hitting the VW. This had fatal consequences for the elderly man, who was immediately seriously injured and died at the scene of the accident.
Injured occupants and rescue efforts
The situation was dramatic: In addition to the fatally injured driver, the 84-year-old female passenger and an 85-year-old passenger in the VW were also seriously injured. While the passenger was flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter, the occupants of the Seat and the Mercedes, who also suffered injuries, were taken to several hospitals. The local fire brigades were quickly on the scene and supported the rescue efforts.
The Ochsenfurt police took over the investigation of the accident, with an expert being called in on the orders of the public prosecutor. In addition, the B19 remained closed during the investigation to give the emergency services enough space to process the situation.
