Major fire at Hubland: Fire brigade on duty - cause still unclear!

On Monday afternoon there was a noticeable incident in Würzburg: the flat roof of a new building on Hubland was on fire. The fire caused a dense plume of smoke that was visible over the shell of the building and called the fire department into action with a large contingent. When the emergency services arrived, so-called material that was stored on the roof was burning. The cause of the fire is still unclear; Initially there was suspicion of an exploding gas cylinder, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. In order to bring the fire fully under control, the incident commander called in additional forces, but they were no longer needed as the fire had already been extinguished by the time they arrived. The amount of material damage cannot currently be precisely quantified. Radio Gong reports on this tricky matter.

What's going on in town this time? This week didn't just bring this incident. When a fire was reported on Thursday, emergency services were called to downtown Würzburg, where a fire broke out on the roof terrace of an office building. Witnesses reported heavy smoke that was visible from afar. Despite the rapid response of the fire brigade, rescue services and police, the fire caused significant damage and several injuries. A 45-year-old man suffered serious burn injuries and was taken to a special clinic in Nuremberg. Two other people had to be treated for smoke intoxication and burn injuries. Würzburger Leben has recorded the details of this incident.

Investigations underway

The cause of the fire in the city center remains unclear, but criminal investigations revealed a possible explanation. During an inspection of the fire site on Friday morning, it emerged that a technical defect in an ashtray permanently attached to the facade could be responsible. The ashtray cleaning flap was broken and partially open. The fire was discovered directly under the wall ashtray. Fortunately, investigators are currently not assuming there was an arson. According to initial estimates, the amount of damage is in the high five-digit range.

Amid these incidents, the focus remains on the cause of the fire at Hubland, while the city continues to monitor damage reports and investigations. The fire department has once again proven that it can react quickly and effectively to dangerous situations. It remains to be hoped that such events in this form do not become a habit.
