Strong together: Action for the International Day against Violence against Women!
Today, November 25, 2025, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls is celebrated worldwide. This day draws attention to a serious violation of human dignity. Numerous campaigns have also been launched in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district to draw attention to this problem and offer support to those affected.
The local initiative “I don't care about violence” starts today by distributing 25,000 bags in bakeries, food banks and shops. These bags contain important telephone numbers, including those of the women's shelters in Ansbach and Schwabach as well as the helpline for violence against women, which is at www.hilfetelefon.de is reachable. The number 116 016 offers anonymous and free help.
Statistics that are worrying
There is a sad reality that cannot be ignored: one in three women in Germany experiences physical or sexual violence in the course of their life. Even more worrying is the fact that every third day a woman is killed by her (ex-)partner. The statistics also show an increase in cases of digital violence, especially cyberbullying, which affects many women and girls, especially those with a migration background or from precarious life situations. Forms of violence include physical, psychological, sexual, economic and digital violence, as the data from Statista show.
International Day activities
In Gunzenhausen there will be a rally at the Hafnermarkt today at 6:30 p.m., organized by the Green Women. The shops on the market square and in the city center are now shining in an impressive orange to show solidarity with those affected. For anyone who would like to find out more about the topic, there will be an information stand on the market square in Weißenburg tomorrow, November 26th, from 9 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
There will also be a screening of “She said” at the Movieworld cinema in Gunzenhausen on November 26th at 7:30 p.m. The film deals with the revelation of sexual abuse by female journalists at the New York Times. In advance there is the opportunity to get to know the equal opportunities officers and chat over a bag of popcorn.
In summary, today not only encourages reflection, but also encourages people to take an active stand against these forms of violence. Information and help are below Helpline.de available at any time. Let us set an example together against violence and for the rights of all women and girls.
