Pfaffenwinkelbahn cancels connections: Is the passenger crisis increasing?
The timetable change on December 14, 2025 will bring significant changes to the Pfaffenwinkelbahn. Loud Marker the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) deleted several connections from the operating plan, including two pairs of amplifier trains that ran from Weilheim to Peißenberg at 4:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. and in the opposite direction at 5:02 p.m. and 8:02 p.m. The reason for these cancellations is the very low demand, which only sees two to 15 passengers per day.
The Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB), which is entrusted with the implementation of the BEG decisions, also expresses concerns about the long-term validity of the timetable. This is where possible construction work comes into play. Norbert Moy from the Pro Bahn passenger association is concerned about the negative development in passenger numbers on the Pfaffenwinkelbahn, which was not so easily predictable - after all, the now canceled connections are still listed in the MVV timetable book.
Current challenges
The condition of the Pfaffenwinkelbahn cannot be overlooked: As another report from BR emphasizes, the rail network is dilapidated and is currently plagued by a landslide. There are currently no more trains running between Weilheim and Peißenberg because the section of the route has to be closed for repair work. The route is expected to remain closed until April 7, 2026. The railway embankment, which dates back to 1866, has partially slipped and temporary stabilization of the railway embankment will take place in the coming weeks.
A crisis meeting has already taken place between those responsible at Deutsche Bahn, Bayerische Regiobahn and local politicians to discuss the situation. Further train cancellations and delays are expected in the next few months. The fundamental renovation of the railway embankment is planned for next year and will involve a closure of three months.
Passenger development in comparison
The challenge for the Pfaffenwinkelbahn remains great. The continuation of the offer depends not only on the political decision, but also on the regionalization funds. Future measures to improve the punctuality and stability of train traffic are pending, but the infrastructure must first be brought back into shape.
