Huglfing: The most beautiful village in Europe 2025 inspires with community spirit!

The tranquil Huglfing in the Weilheim-Schongau district has committed itself to a masterpiece: it was named the most beautiful village in Europe in 2025. To great applause, the municipality received the impressive Gold Medal Plus at the international Entente Florale Europe competition, the highest honor ever awarded in the competition's 50-year history. With over 90 percent of the possible points, Huglfing left the competition behind and was even able to relegate well-known cities such as Nice and Nantes to the places. The almost 2,920 residents can be really proud!

The mayor of Huglfing, Markus Huber, led a tour of the picturesque town, which impresses with its characteristic tuff stone facades and the idyllic Hungerbach. The jury particularly praised the strong sense of community and the committed volunteer work that is very important in Huglfing. The municipal community includes over 30 associations that are actively committed to a beautiful and sustainable life in the community.

Key criteria of the award

The jury's assessment was not only based on the aesthetics of the place, but also included the generation-friendly site design as well as innovative environmental and nature conservation projects. Particularly noteworthy are the sustainable projects such as the “Hungerbach Detectives” adventure playground and the environmentally friendly parking lot at the train station, all of which ensured that the commitment and efforts of the citizens shone in the evaluation. The well-kept green areas and floral decorations also made the jury's hearts beat faster.

As Mayor Huber emphasized, this award is not only a success for the town, but also for the entire community. The citizens themselves traveled to Slovenia with more than 70 people in traditional costumes to the award ceremony, where they underlined their joy about the win with brass music and festive celebrations. One citizen impressively expressed her pride in the achievements as the community celebrated the unforgettable moments.

A promising future

In addition to the award, Huglfing can look forward to another big anniversary: In 2030, the community will celebrate its thousandth anniversary. With a clear focus on social housing projects and respectful renovations, Huglfing has a good hand not only in the present but also for the future. It remains exciting to see what further highlights the community will achieve in the coming years.

The jury was visibly enthusiastic about the conditions in Huglfing during their visit in July 2025, and this positive feedback is reflected in the gold award. Huglfing impressively shows how closely community, environmental protection and quality of life can be linked. tz.de reports that the Gold Medal Plus award is a sign of the community's future viability.
