Free voters elect Marksteiner as district council candidate for 2026!

The decision was made in the Weilheim “Gögerl” restaurant on October 25, 2025: Michael Marksteiner, a 42-year-old from Penzberg, was nominated as the Free Voters’ district administrator candidate for the 2026 local elections with an impressive “100 percent approval”. In doing so, he has positioned himself as the party's hope. The nomination took place at a general meeting, and the unity among the members shows that Marksteiner is very popular.

State parliament member and district chairwoman Susann Enders praised Marksteiner and characterized him as down-to-earth and close to the people. Marksteiner also brings valuable experience as a deputy district administrator and from his work on the district council. He already launched his political career in the 2021 federal election when he received 6.2 percent of the first votes as a FW direct candidate in constituency 225 Weilheim.

Looking ahead: review spending and involve citizens

In his introductory speech, Marksteiner emphasized the importance of focusing on mandatory tasks and the need to closely monitor spending. Dialogue with citizens is particularly important to him because he wants to include people in the decision-making process and always be available to address their concerns even after the election.

The official assembly meeting for the district election will take place on November 4, 2023 in the “Gögerl”, where Marksteiner will present his program. For many, he is the new bearer of hope who can bring a breath of fresh air into local politics and wants to give citizens a voice.

The 2026 local elections: A crucial year for Bavaria

The local elections in Bavaria, which will take place on March 8, 2026, are an important milestone. Not only city and local councils are elected here, but also district administrators and mayors in 71 districts and 25 independent cities. Marksteiner sees this as an opportunity to bring citizens' concerns directly into politics and thus fight for a strong Bavaria.

In view of the upcoming elections, Marksteiner is not only planning his candidacy for the district election, but is also preparing for the federal election on February 23, 2025. Among other things, he would like to address issues such as the financial resources of municipalities, stable federal policy and reforms in the healthcare system. As a particular concern, he highlighted the demand for tax-free 2,000 euros for employees and pensioners at the end of the month, which he sees as necessary support for people.

Looking to the future, voters in Bavaria have numerous opportunities to actively shape the direction of politics. Mercury and n-ag continue to report on developments and candidacies while Bavaria can prepare for the elections. The Danube Courier also highlights how important these elections are for the citizens and the political landscape in Bavaria.
