New animal shelter opens in Weiden: A festival for animals and animal lovers!
The opening of the new animal shelter in Weiden was a real celebration for animal lovers and a great achievement for the animal protection association in Weiden and the surrounding area. V. Around 80 guests gathered to witness this important moment. Chairwoman Mariele Junak in particular did not miss the opportunity to welcome those present and thanked all supporters, including Mayor Jens Meyer, who presented a donation check from Sparkasse Oberpfalz Nord to finance the interior design of the new home. A cute but courageous mascot, the pug “Emma”, also cheered up the guests.
As the Oberpfälzer Nachrichten reports, the animal shelter in Mooslohe now has space for 20 to 25 dogs, 50 cats and 15 small animals and birds. The entire project lasted over 14 months and at the opening the figures were impressive: 1.75 million euros came from the city of Weiden, 1.75 million euros from the Neustadt/WN district and 1.3 million euros from the animal protection association, resulting in total financing of around 4.8 million euros. Pastor Thomas Jeschner blessed the new premises and emphasized the importance of responsibility for our fellow creatures.
A modern building with sustainable technology
The new building impresses not only with its modern rooms, but also with its sustainable building technology. This includes a photovoltaic system, a storage battery and underfloor heating with an air heat pump. The animal shelter was equipped with 12 km of electrical cables, 8 km of underfloor heating and a variety of other technical details. Environmentally friendly measures such as green roofs and a rainwater cistern were also implemented, making the animal shelter a showcase facility.
What is particularly noteworthy is that despite the generous amount of space and the new infrastructure, some rooms are still missing the finishing touches. A medical treatment room is not yet fully equipped, which is why the animal welfare association is asking for support to complete these rooms.
