Celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Soldiers' Association in Mindelheim!
On October 28, 2025, around 150 comrades and guests of honor gathered in the Mindelheim Forum to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Unterallgäu district association of the Bavarian Comrades and Soldiers' Association. Among the guests were prominent personalities such as District Administrator Alex Eder, who acted as patron, Mayor Dr. Stephan Winter, members of the state parliament Bernhard Pohl and Peter Wachler as well as former state minister Franz Josef Pschierer. Christoph Walter, the chairman of the host Mindelheim association, led the festive evening, which was characterized by topics such as peace, reliability, memory and responsibility. This reports Mercury.
The Bavarian Comrades and Soldiers' Association has more than 3,000 members in the Lower Allgäu and a total of around 80,000 throughout Bavaria. An interesting fact is that many soldiers' clubs like the Illertaler emerged from the experiences of the Franco-German War of 1870/71. The speeches emphasized how former enemies, such as the Germans and French, have turned into friends. However, the current conflict situation is perceived as complex, with no quick solutions or military options.
Association as a mediator to society
The role of the Bavarian Comrades and Soldiers' Association as a mediator in society was a central theme of the festivities. The members see it as their duty to keep memories of past conflicts alive and to contribute to peaceful coexistence. The former district administrator Dr. Hermann Haisch, who initiated the founding of the district association, was also honored.
Particularly noteworthy is the support that the association offers for soldiers and veterans. Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann also pointed out this appreciation when he congratulated the Bavarian Warriors' Association on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of its founding. He praised the association's commitment to comradeship, solidarity and the interests of the members and underlined the important role of the BKV for the peaceful coexistence of peoples. In addition, the Bavarian Comrades and Soldiers' Association was accepted as a recognized shooting sports association in 2007 and has organized its members into seven district associations, 30 district associations and around 800 local associations. Herrmann, who is himself a former lieutenant colonel in the reserve, promised the Free State's support for soldiers' and reservists' associations, which further underlines the positive developments in the region.
The celebrations once again highlighted how important the association's work is, both for its members and for society. They take their responsibility seriously and show that memories and the promotion of peace are still very important.
