Roof structure fire in Stetten: A blessing in disguise for residents!

In the early morning hours of January 14, 2026, a devastating fire broke out in Stetten im Allgäu. At 4:50 a.m., the fire department received an emergency call that the roof of an apartment building on Main Street was on fire. A couple who lived in the building were alerted by the barking of their dogs and discovered the fire in the neighboring half of the house. Thanks to their quick reaction, they were able to wake the 47-year-old resident of the other half in time so that everyone involved, including the dogs, remained unharmed. This is reported by the Augsburger Allgemeine.

The fire department arrived when the building was already fully engulfed in flames. Despite the massive flames, the emergency services managed to prevent the entire object from burning down completely. However, both halves of the house are badly damaged and no longer habitable, which means an estimated damage of around 400,000 euros. The deployment of the fire brigades from Stetten, Mindelheim, Apfeltrach, Dirlewang as well as Ober- and Unterkammlach was of great importance, as was the support from the rescue service and the THW Memmingen.

Power outages and road closures

Due to the extinguishing work, the power lines to the affected house had to be cut, which led to power outages in neighboring buildings. The power supply was expected to be restored in the afternoon. In addition, there were road closures during the operation, which made rescue efforts and firefighting even more difficult.

The cause of the fire is still unclear; The investigation into this is being conducted by the Memmingen Criminal Investigation Department. Such incidents are not only local, but also show a trend that can be observed in many regions. As part of a comprehensive analysis of the cause of the fire and fire statistics, the CTIF Center for Fire Statistics is constantly working to collect data that can provide valuable insights into fire development and risk trends. The associated project “100 CITIES – 100 YEARS” examines urban fire risks and is ongoing to improve the fire situation worldwide, as can be found on the CTIF website.

Fire service statistics show that such fire events not only have local significance, but also have an impact on statistical surveys that are crucial for improving fire protection and fire prevention. This data is important to better understand future incidents and take appropriate measures to prevent such disasters.
