Löwen Frankfurt lose at home against Straubing: only one goal!

On December 1st, 2025, the Löwen Frankfurt and the Straubing Tigers met in the Nix ice rink in Frankfurt for the eagerly awaited 24th matchday of the PENNY DEL. With 6,444 spectators creating a great atmosphere, expectations of a thrilling ice hockey game were not disappointed. In the end, the Lions suffered a defeat: Straubing won 3-1.

Already in the first third, the guests from Straubing showed that they had nothing to give away. In the 7th minute, Wade Allison scored the first goal of the game, followed by Stefan Loibl, who increased the score to 0-2 in the 18th minute. The Lions found it difficult to get into the game and were two goals behind going into the first break.

A fighting second third

In the second third, the Lions managed to counter the Tigers' tactics. Justin Scott increased the score to 0:3 for Straubing in the 13th minute, but shortly before the end of the third Chris Wilkie was able to reduce the score to 1:3 for Frankfurt, giving the fans hope. This goal came in the 34th minute on an assist from Rowney and Matushkin, which posed a challenge for the Tigers' defense.

In the final third, the Lions tried to catch up and left no stone unturned. They even played with an additional field player, but the expected equalizer failed to materialize. Straubing was able to score a goal, but it was taken back after a video check, which created additional tension. In the end it was 1:3 for the Tigers - a result that bitterly disappointed the hosts.

Outlook and records in the PENNY DEL

The next challenge for the Lions is already imminent: On December 5th, 2025, they will play away at Wolfsburg, followed by a home game against Red Bull Munich on December 7th.
Tickets are available in the Löwen ticket shop and the game will be broadcast live on MAGENTA SPORT.

The 2024/25 season has already set records: a total of 3.21 million spectators filled the arenas of the 14 clubs, an average of 7,781 spectators per game. There was also a lot of action in the playoffs, where the average spectators rose to over 10,000 spectators per game. These numbers are another sign of how the passion for ice hockey continues to grow in Germany and how fans are flocking to the ice rinks in large numbers - good business for the league and the clubs.
