Water damage in Starnberg sauna: reopening uncertain!

Starnberg, Deutschland - In Starnberg, water damage in the sauna of the seaside resort causes continuing problems. The damage has been known since autumn 2024, and the city administration has always informed the citizens about the current status of the renovation work. The latest status report was presented on June 28, 2025 in the construction committee. Unfortunately, the list of damage remains longer, which makes the reopening of the popular sauna area in a long way. According to Merkur not only in the sauna, but also in the delivery area Gastronomy as well as in cooling, storage and personnel rooms. These areas remain inaccessible at least 11 weeks.

In order to provide the affected catering area, a bridging offer was planned in consultation with the health department at the end of March, which was implemented in May. For example, cooling containers were set up outdoors and a temporary line path for the kitchen and outdoor pool kiosk were created. The demolition work in the sauna lounge and in the delivery area are currently underway, while in the reed sauna and outdoors everything is almost complete.

The situation becomes critical

The situation has not yet been adjusted, because the swellwood of the sauna hut also has moisture, and the scope of the necessary exchange must first be checked. Other areas such as the massage room and the sauna bar are also affected by moisture. The decision as to whether the affected parts have to be dried or demolished is still pending. Water has spread over a large area in the area of the sauna losen, which is further complicated.

The city for the time being refrains from naming a specific schedule for the reopening of the sauna area. Originally, a return to normal operation on October 20 was planned, but this deadline cannot now be met. However, the city confirms that all the necessary measures are taken to put the sauna area back into operation as soon as possible. In this context, the question remains open how the entire project is financed.

Hope for financial support

It is interesting that the Federal Minister of Building Klara Geywitz started a new project call for the energetic renovation of swimming pools, sports halls as well as youth and cultural centers on June 19. A total of 400 million euros are available via the program "Refurbishment of municipal institutions in the areas of sports, youth and culture". The aim is to reduce the renovation backlog and ensure that municipal buildings are sufficient even after the modernization of high energetic standards. Applications for the projects can be submitted by September 15, which gives those responsible in Starnberg a certain hope of receiving support for the necessary renovation work.

The citizens are still excited to see how the sauna will continue in the seaside resort and whether the city can soon give all -clear. What is certain is that the renovation work in the sauna has far -reaching effects on the use of the entire system and that those responsible will be required in the next few weeks to control the situation.
