Starnberg shines: IHK survey confirms location as top choice!
A positive mood has emerged in the Starnberg district in the current IHK location survey 2025. How on Mercury can be read, the district received an overall grade of 2.0, unchanged compared to the 2023 survey. Around 80% of the companies surveyed rated the location conditions as “good” or “very good”, which speaks for the local economy.
What is striking is that only 4.4% of the companies rated the location as “poor”, and not a single company gave it a “very bad” grade. This is particularly encouraging as 81% of respondents said they would choose the Starnberg district again, a small increase of 77.9% since the last survey.
Challenges and growth opportunities
However, the survey also shows that 22.4% of companies report delays in growth. These are mainly due to a lack of commercial space, a lack of staff and lengthy approval procedures. Nevertheless, these are the lowest values in all of Upper Bavaria. This fact supports the argument of Katja Lindo Roever, chairwoman of the Starnberg IHK regional committee, who sees a need for action in the areas of less bureaucratic administration and business friendliness.
There is great satisfaction among entrepreneurs with regard to the connection to the regional and highway network as well as the energy supply, even if internationally uncompetitive energy prices remain an issue. Lindo Roever emphasizes the relevance of addressing existing problems and continuing to strengthen the location, especially in the areas of business and property tax as well as mobile phone coverage.
Positive trends for the future
There is also a positive development in the area of location downsizing: only 5.2% of companies have reduced their location in the last three years - the lowest figure in Upper Bavaria. In addition, 12.1% of companies plan to expand within the next three years, which represents another bright spot for the local economy.
A total of 136 companies from the district and 3,668 companies from all over Upper Bavaria took part in the IHK location survey, which underlines the relevance and significance of the results. The Starnberg district is not only a place with a lot of potential, but also an area that can constantly improve.
In addition to the numbers from the IHK survey, there is an interesting detail from the world of games: For example, the card game Solitario Klondike, also known as classic solitaire, is still popular. Originally popularized in the Yukon gold rush in the 19th century and made famous by a 1990 version of Windows software, it has a permanent place in many offices, although it is sometimes blacklisted by IT - certainly a sign of the impact of games on productivity.
Overall, the Starnberg district not only looks at the challenges, but also the opportunities that they present. There is a real upward trend here and that makes us excited about the future.
