Rescue routes blocked: illegal parking endangers lives on Lake Starnberg!

There are rumblings in the region around Lake Starnberg, especially when we talk about parking behavior. On August 17, 2025, there was an alarming incident in which emergency services were unable to get to the scene in time due to blocked streets. This led to an extremely critical situation that could have endangered someone's life. The managing director of the Municipal Services Association (ZV KD), Benjamin Bursic, warns urgently: “Blocking rescue routes can endanger human lives.”

During the summer holidays, ZV KD announced increased controls on stationary traffic in Münsing, Starnberg, Tutzing and Seeshaupt. Particular attention is paid to the frequented leisure areas: 150 warnings were issued on the Assumption Day holiday alone. “We often experience excuses and resistance from illegal parkers, sometimes even physical threats,” Bursic continued.

Urgent need for action

The approximately 1,800 official parking spaces at the Ambach recreation area represent a particularly critical problem. Many are overcrowded on sunny days, which leads to both emergency routes and parking spaces for people with disabilities being illegally blocked. Those who park illegally face a fine of 100 euros and additional towing costs. The ZV KD has now introduced a “simplified towing procedure” that allows you to react more quickly to illegal parking.

  • 150 Verwarnungen am Feiertag
  • 1800 offizielle Parkplätze oft zu wenig
  • Bußgeld von 100 Euro für Falschparker

In order to improve the situation, the ZV KD is also focusing on raising awareness. This is done by introducing colored cards: a blue card indicates a parking block, while a green card with a wheelchair logo is given for reserved spaces. They have also been working with the #moreCaution initiative of the Federal Ministry of Transport and the German Road Safety Council for a year.

An example of better coexistence

Bursic emphasizes that the goal of the ZV KD is to be able to bring emergency vehicles to the scene of the emergency at any time without any hindrance. “It is important to promote respect on the road and to get along with each other,” he appeals. Even in bad weather, the association remains active and continues to monitor the escape routes.

If all road users adhered to the rules a little more, many problems and conflicts in everyday life could be avoided. While in everyday life we often juggle technology and software that helps us - be it in the office or to support people with disabilities - such as modern dictation software, we should not forget to follow basic traffic rules. Whether it's about respecting parking spaces or respecting emergency routes, tragically it's often the little things that have a big impact.

So while we welcome new technologies and initiatives, our behavior on the road should also be put to the test. Remember: your vehicle could be necessary at any time to facilitate a rescue. Get involved and show respect!
