Help against loneliness: Condrobs also opens on Christmas Eve!

In Gauting, the Condrobs contact and meeting place will open its doors on December 24th with a very special offer. Visitors can look forward to a festive raclette and delicious stollen. “This is not just about food, but about community and togetherness,” emphasizes Katharina Egenhofer, the director of the facility, who has been running this important contact point for two years. A male Labrador named Neri happily welcomes the guests and ensures a welcome start to the day.

About 20 visitors flock to the facility every day, affected by the challenges of loneliness. The majority of clients arrive at 10 a.m. to chat together, play cards or help chop vegetables and cook. Creative activities such as crafts or making music are also on the program. This diversity is not only intended to distract, but also to promote social exchange.

Loneliness as the main problem

The basis of loneliness is diverse and widespread in society, as the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs shows in its digital map of the Competence Network for Loneliness (KNE). Almost 1,000 offers are currently registered in Germany that are intended to prevent or alleviate loneliness. “The KNE promotes exchanges about prevention and intervention,” explains the ministry in a press release. The initiatives are intended to bring people together and enable them to take part in cultural activities or learning groups.

In recent years there have been several scientific studies examining the adverse effects of loneliness. Research shows that social isolation can not only take a toll on mental health, but it can also have physical effects. Awareness of this issue is growing and the need for offerings at local places such as Condrobs is becoming more and more obvious.

Technical support for independence

Despite the positive development, there are still hurdles to overcome. Many visitors do not have their own computer, which prevents them from staying active in today's digital world. The Condrobs facility has an outdated computer that urgently needs an update. Felix Sebald, a local social worker, often helps clients with computer problems. “This not only creates conversations, but also the opportunity to become part of the digital society again,” he explains.

The facility has launched a fundraising appeal to purchase new IT equipment. Monetary donations are also welcome via the SZ service point or by bank transfer to SZ Gute Werke e.V. Online donations are also possible via the website www.sz-gute-werke.de enabled.

The challenges are great, but the commitment of the employees and the cooperation in the community give hope. “Every small step towards improvement is important in combating loneliness,” says Egenhofer. Initiatives like Condrobs's make a valuable contribution to reducing the feeling of emptiness and isolation and instead bringing joy and contact into everyday life.
