Storm warning: Fallen trees bring chaos in Lower Bavaria!
December 25, 2025 brings bad news for Lower Bavaria: The German Weather Service warns of strong winds and squalls in several districts. Areas particularly affected are Freyung-Grafenau, Deggendorf and Regen, where the warnings apply to altitudes above 400 to 1000 meters. The districts of Straubing-Bogen as well as the city and district of Passau are also on the warning list.
In the last few days, the weather has already caused initial damage in the region. On Christmas Eve there were several fallen trees in the Rottal-Inn district. The police in Eggenfelden received numerous reports of fallen trees in the towns of Wurmannsquick, Geratskirchen and Falkenberg. Some of these lay across the streets and required the use of the fire brigade to remove them.
Damage caused by wind and weather
Similar scenarios also occurred in North Rhine-Westphalia, where severe thunderstorms with heavy rain and even small hail occurred on Wednesday. In Moers, especially in the Kapellen district, the fire department registered around 17 operations as of 2:45 p.m.; several trees fell and blocked the roads. Fortunately, there were no injuries, as a fire department spokesman reported. Around 70 firefighters were deployed to repair the damage. It remained unclear whether brief tornadoes also occurred in the region in connection with the storms.
The severe weather center provides ongoing information about upcoming weather events. All types of severe weather warnings, including storms, hurricanes, heavy rain and freezing rain, are displayed on their website. The weather forecasts are monitored by experienced meteorologists and continually adjusted in order to warn and protect the population as best as possible. Acute warnings signal the certain arrival of a natural hazard and come in three warning levels: orange for moderate, red for severe and purple for extreme storms.
At this time it is important to take the warnings seriously. The most up-to-date information on the weather situation and potential hazards is available around the clock to ensure that citizens in affected regions are well informed.
