Masked thieves steal plant pots in front of a pizzeria in Simbach!
On Wednesday night, a scary incident in Simbach am Inn caused a stir: a plant pot was stolen in front of a pizzeria at Münchner Straße 7. Witnesses reported several masked people wearing “Anonymous masks” who loaded the plant into a vehicle, apparently undisturbed. The incident occurred around midnight and ended with the perpetrators escaping, driving away from the Braunau registration district in a car with an Austrian license plate. The Simbach am Inn police station is asking for information from other witnesses by calling (08571)91390 in order to solve this bizarre theft.
As can be seen from the incident, not only the masks of the perpetrators but also the context of crime in the region seem to be worth looking at. There is agreement that crime is increasing again in Germany, and therefore also in Bavaria. According to an analysis by a statistical portal, there were around 1.78 million thefts recorded by the police in 2022. This does not make the current events in Simbach an isolated case. This raises the question: What motivates criminals not to stop at even a simple plant pot?
Thefts in comparison
The list of the most common thefts in Germany is long and colorful:
- Ladendiebstähle: 344.669 Fälle
- Fahrraddiebstähle: 265.562 Fälle
- Diebstähle in/aus Kraftfahrzeugen: 235.732 Fälle
- Entwendung von Kraftwagen: 25.511 Fälle
What is particularly noticeable is that there was an increase in theft crimes in 2022 compared to the previous year. It's not just police intelligence that's needed; Citizens' awareness must also be increased.

A few months earlier, on July 11, 2025, several Polish citizens were checked during a check on the B12 in Kirchdorf am Inn. In the trunk of her vehicle there were four canisters with a total of around 115 liters of diesel, which were transported without proof of purchase. The suspicious information provided by the vehicle occupants led to the confiscation of the diesel and the initiation of criminal proceedings. Such incidents make it clear that the issue of theft and the trade in illegal goods must also be actively discussed in neighboring towns.
