Iron wedding in Rosenheim: 65 years of love despite all odds!

On June 7, 2025, Anni and Edmund Gebauer celebrated their iron wedding anniversary in Rosenheim and look back on 65 years together. Both are 88 years old and fondly remember their beginnings, when they met as young people under the difficult conditions of post-war Germany. Anni, then 16, and Edmund, 15, met in the grocery store where Anni worked and had a small room. What initially seemed like a fragile relationship quickly developed: after several separations, they found each other again and finally married in 1960.

The wedding celebration took place in Rosenheim at Café Weth and the Hofbräukeller, an event that was unforgettable for both her and her family. Anni and Edmund have four children – three daughters and a son. At the beginning of their family life, they lived with Edmund's mother in a small apartment, which was particularly challenging when the children were born.

Housing shortage and a good hand

The search for our own apartment turned into a small odyssey. During a difficult time, Anni even turned to the mayor at the time, who promised to take her family into account when the next apartment was allocated. They ultimately found a new home in the 1960s, which marked the start of a new phase in their lives. Edmund worked as a truck driver, which meant the family spent intensive weekends together.

In 1982 they moved to a larger house in Rosenheim, where they still live today. Through all the challenges life has thrown at them, both emphasize that their frugality and ability to get by on little has contributed to the longevity of their marriage. “We didn’t have much, but we had each other,” says Anni.

A look into the neighborhood

In the same breath, one could cite the story of Monika and Erich Reichert, who celebrated their iron wedding anniversary on April 21, 2025. Monika, 84, and 91-year-old Erich also came from modest backgrounds. They married in 1960 in the Church of Saint Sebastian in Ramsau and moved to Fürth before moving to Rosenheim. Together they have three children and seven grandchildren because, like Anni and Edmund, they know how important family support is.

Another notable couple from the region are Aliie and Grigori Blinder, who are celebrating their iron wedding anniversary in Bayreuth after 65 years of marriage. Both have faced many challenges, such as war and flight, but the memories they have made together are priceless. Grigori received life-saving treatment for kidney cancer in Germany, and the modest celebration of her anniversary was capped off by a visit from the mayor.

With small celebrations in familiar surroundings, good conversations and appreciation for everyday life, these couples demonstrate that love can blossom even in difficult times. “Drinking coffee and having good conversations are the secret,” emphasizes Erich Reichert. Similar to Anni and Edmund Gebauer, family tradition remains the foundation for a fulfilling life, in good times and in difficult times.

The circles of life close as couples across the region remember their colorful stories and the community remains strong through the bonds of love and loyalty. rosenheim24.de reports about Anni and Edmund, ovb-online.de about Monika and Erich, during courier.de tells the story of Aliie and Grigori.
