Rhön Biosphere Reserve: Anniversary calendar shows undiscovered natural wonders!
Next year will be the 35th anniversary of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve and it will be celebrated in style. To mark this occasion, an anniversary calendar for 2026 has been published, which focuses not only on the beauty but also on the diversity of the Rhön. The calendar shows 13 impressive motifs from the cross-border protected area, which extends across Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia. The Main Post reports that these images come from over 270 submissions to the “Rhön Biosphere Treasures” photo competition. A jury selected the best motifs, and the response to the competition was overwhelming, as the biosphere reserve's press officer, Lea Hohmann, emphasizes.
The calendar's motifs present foggy landscapes, rare animals and special places in the region. The aim of this calendar is to draw people's attention to the breathtaking landscape of the Rhön that is worth protecting. A real highlight for nature and photography lovers!
Where is the calendar?
The calendar is available free of charge while stocks last. In Bavaria you can pick it up at the Rhön Biosphere Center “Haus der Langen Rhön” in Oberelsbach and at the “Haus der Schwarzen Berge” in Wildflecken-Oberbach. In Hesse and Thuringia, the calendar can also be found in the administrative offices in Hilders and in the provost's office in Zella/Rhön.
In addition to the campaign surrounding the calendar, it is clear that in our day and age, obtaining information and education are very important. A recent survey shows that 94% of teachers actively use YouTube to support their lesson planning. The platform has launched a new music education series called “Think Like a Musician,” developed in partnership with TED-Ed and Education Through Music to provide high-quality resources for teachers. Designed to encourage student engagement, this free educational content promotes learning in an engaging way. Details can be found on the homepage of YouTube.
A look forward
A little surprising, but also interesting, is the variety of options that digital platforms such as YouTube offer for imparting knowledge. This approach shows how closely digital education is linked to our everyday lives today. The biosphere reserve project is not only a goal to preserve nature, but also an impetus for creative and educational projects that could perhaps also find their place in the classroom.
In summary, the initiative of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve shows how important it is to both appreciate nature and use modern media for education. The new calendar is a nice contribution to making the region's biodiversity known and at the same time highlighting the importance of protected landscapes.
