Regensburg is investing in the future: Nordspange should relieve traffic!

An exciting transport reform is emerging in Regensburg. The new transport connection, the so-called Nordspange, is being planned in great strides. The aim of this initiative is to noticeably reduce noise and exhaust pollution for people in the north of Regensburg and the surrounding area. According to Regensburg, this measure will also increase traffic safety and improve traffic bundling.

The current traffic on Nordgaustraße is considerable: around 21,000 vehicles travel here every day - a figure that is forecast to increase to over 34,000 by 2030. The existing roads are already reaching their capacity limits, which underlines the need for the north span as an overall project.

Of bridges and circles: An infrastructure project in focus

The city of Regensburg is planning a comprehensive infrastructure project that, in addition to the bridge, also includes a new roundabout and road reconstruction measures. Construction work is expected to begin in 2028 or 2029. The State Building Authority is responsible for the Sallern rain bridge and the Lappersdorf roundabout, while the city of Regensburg is taking the expansion of Nordgaustraße into its own hands.

The plan calls for the creation of four lanes to accommodate increasing traffic. In addition, a 400 meter long noise protection enclosure will be created with a green cover to reduce noise. New cycle paths and sidewalks are also part of this future-oriented planning. With these measures, the Nordspange Regensburg is considered one of the most important infrastructure projects in the region.

Pleasant relief for the residents

The northern span not only has the task of optimizing traffic flow, but also improving the safety of road users and creating a closer connection between the city and the surrounding area. As the Federal Environment Ministry shows, minimizing noise pollution from traffic is essential for the quality of life of residents.

It is expected that this traffic conversion will not only significantly improve the current condition of the roads, but also ensure that the quality of life in Regensburg and the surrounding area increases. For many, this would result in a significant quality of life. Progress is within reach and the anticipation of noise-free and safe roads is palpable.
