Multimedia reading in Regensburg: Comic author Schmiedbauer inspires!
Things get hot in July in the lively city of Regensburg! On Saturday, July 12, 2025, a very special event will take place at 6 p.m. in the World Heritage Visitor Center in the Salzstadel: the finissage of the comic exhibition “People on the River”. Since May 2025, this exhibition has been showing large-format comic panels that author and illustrator Christian Schmiedbauer created during his journey along the Danube from its source in the Black Forest to its mouth in the Black Sea. The focus is on topics such as encounters, identity and change along the river. Regensburg.de reports that Schmiedbauer will read from his accompanying volume during the event, which was awarded by the Free State of Bavaria.
The highlight of the finissage is the multimedia live reading, which combines comic images, musical background and the artist's personal narrative. The audience is not only taken into the world of comics, but can also experience the unique stories behind the pictures - including adventurous anecdotes, such as an unintentional acquaintance with a prison stay! There is also a special focus on Regensburg and the famous Stone Bridge, which, with its historical roots, forms an important part of the story.
A place for meetings
The exhibition and accompanying events not only offer an insight into Schmiedbauer's work, but are also an invitation to the people of the city to come together and reflect on their own encounters on the river. Together they create a space for exchange and identity that goes beyond art. Admission to the event is free and books will also be available for purchase and signing. A real treat for all comic and art lovers!
Another exciting reading took place on May 10, 2025 in the Augsburg city library. There Schmiedbauer read for the first time from his newly published companion volume, in which he shares personal experiences along the Danube. Here too, the audience could look forward to book signings, while the author gave insights into his travels and the stories that emerged from them. Literature portal Bavaria emphasizes that the author received a work grant from the Free State of Bavaria for his work, which only underlines his passionate narrative style.
Comic art on the rise
The comic reading series “Talking Heads” has also made a major contribution to promoting comic art in Bavaria. The events in 2023 and the planned continuation in 2025 will bring together veteran artists and emerging talent. This series allows listeners to be inspired and creates a network between artists. The first readings are planned for next year in Ansbach and Augsburg. Comic in Bavaria reports on the creation of this valuable platform.
So, dear people of Regensburg, mark your calendars for July 12, 2025! An evening full of art, stories and encounters awaits you in the Salzstadel. Let the magic of the river work its magic on you and enjoy a night that focuses on the connection between people and art!
