Inclusion in sport: Regensburg sets new standards for diversity!
A lot is happening in the area of inclusion and sport in Regensburg. In 2023, the innovative “Shift Change” project was launched, in which disabled and non-disabled people swap jobs. This is just one component in Christian Stache's comprehensive strategy, which is committed to better integration of people with disabilities in sports. As regensburg.de reports, Stache also initiated a cooperation with the sports office, which still exists today and includes, among other things, weekly boccia offers in the KJF.
The goal of this initiative is clear: to significantly promote sport for people with disabilities in Regensburg. In addition to advising clubs on establishing inclusive departments, Stache is also active on the sporting stage. His team is aiming to take part in the Bavarian State Games of the Special Olympics. Thanks to his commitment, he also brought the 3-country cup in blind football to Regensburg in 2025.
The status quo of inclusion in sport
The research program “Inclusion and Sport”, which was launched in 2021 by the BGW and Special Olympics Germany, examines the current status of inclusion in popular sports and sheds light on the perception of sports for the disabled. Reporting in social media and presence in leading German and international media are also taken into account. The study results are not only intended to close research gaps, but are also aimed at defining the need for action and attracting network partners. According to bgw-online.de this documentation will provide important recommendations for action.
An example of the challenges in sports for the disabled is shown by the European Blind Baseball Championships, which was held at the same time as an event with around 200 spectators. The following year in Rome there were only 50 spectators, which illustrates how important constant attention is to sports for the disabled, as Stache emphasizes in his reflections.
Sport for everyone – a worthwhile goal
Christian Stache would like sports for the disabled to receive the same public attention as competitive sports. With a passionate call for sport to be accessible to everyone, he advocates for an environment in which no one is excluded because of their impairment. With the support of FSJ employees from the sports office and a strong team behind him, he has firmly decided to bring even more sporting highlights in disabled sports to Regensburg.
Overall, it is clear that the road is still long, but Stache's commitment and ongoing projects are already showing positive signs. It remains to be hoped that such initiatives will continue to gain importance and ultimately promote inclusion in sport.
