Digital nursing offensive: OTH Regensburg actively designs the future!

With a fresh wind in the nursing industry, OTH Regensburg has confirmed its commitment to the future of care. It joins the Bavarian “Digital Pact Care” and thus becomes a partner of the project, which is supported by the Highcare Agenda of the Bavarian State Ministry of Health, Care and Prevention. The aim is to make care in Bavaria future -proof by relying on artificial intelligence, innovative care technology and assistance systems. In total, the Free State of Bavaria is investing around 31 million euros.

But what is behind it? OTH Regensburg brings its expertise into research, teaching and practice into the development of digital care concepts. The focus is on holistic, generational and digitally supported care. This initiative can be seen as part of a Bavarian -wide ecosystem for nursing technology, which strengthens and supports both nurses as well as those in need of care and their relatives. The focus here is - there is something!

innovative projects in the focus

The university pays special attention to various innovative projects. One of them is the Vredumed project that integrates virtual reality glasses into nursing training. This not only creates a practical examination of digital tools, but also offers new learning opportunities for prospective nurses. Another important aspect is the Reikola research project, which examines digital means of communication in long -term care facilities. This communication platform, called KOM, enables a simple connection to family and friends and thus contributes to reducing loneliness.

The final presentation of the Reikola project takes place on October 29, 2025. For the benefit of people in need of care, you can look forward to exciting insights into the results. In addition, the Deinhaus 4.0 Upper Palatinate project has researched the potential of the “Temi” teleprot robot to support stroke patients in the domestic environment.

rely on digitization

The challenges of the care industry were also recognized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Graphic Data Processing IGD. It deals intensively with the development of digital assistance systems to facilitate everyday life in care facilities and private apartments. From Smart Devices and Smart Environments to Smart Furniture - the possibilities are almost unlimited. Applications such as smartwatches and wireless sensors to record nursing activities are just a few examples of how to improve care with clever technologies.

These digital systems not only increase security, but also enable a self -determined lifestyle. With clever solutions for medication distribution in care facilities and the use of capacitive sensors in furniture, continuous health monitoring is also made possible, which facilitates timely interventions.

With these advanced approaches and projects, OTH Regensburg, in cooperation with the Free State of Bavaria, the nursing facilities and innovative companies, sets a strong sign of digital turn in care. So if you think that care is something that can only be made analogously, you have not yet recognized the signs of the times!
