Pfaffenhofen: City bus will run free on all public holidays from 2026!

From January 1, 2026, there will be a new reason to be happy in Pfaffenhofen: the city bus will run on all public holidays of the year! The city administration announced this. The bus service is offered between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and includes lines 1 to 6 of the express bus. This means that citizens can also count on this offer on public holidays, although December 31st is still subject to the old regulations.

New Year's Eve will be interesting for passengers because the city bus will be in service until midday on this day. The lines end at the station between 12:12 and 12:18 p.m. A chic extra that makes arrival and departure easier for those celebrating.

A successful mobility strategy

The idea of offering city buses free of charge since 2019 is apparently paying off: the number of users is constantly growing. The city bus operation was taken over by Stadtbus Pfaffenhofen GmbH in 2022, which has found a flexible approach to the mobility needs of people in the city through the combination of regular buses and express buses. The express buses, which were introduced as an on-demand service and only go to booked stops, are particularly popular. This not only offers flexibility, but also prevents unnecessary empty runs.

Three new bus routes have recently expanded the already attractive offering. These lines run every 30 minutes Monday to Friday and until midday on Saturday. The newly introduced main line between Niederscheyern and Sulzbach ensures additional frequency with three trips per hour. The adjustment of travel times for commuters to Deutsche Bahn is also a welcome service that eloquently responds to the needs of passengers.

Strengthened connection and customer proximity

The city buses were launched in 1996 and expanded to three routes in 1998. Since then, the network has continued to develop both in terms of scope and quality. The city relies on the opinions of passengers and plans to integrate future optimizations in local public transport in combination with modern sharing offers.

Modern transport concepts are very popular these days, and the city of Pfaffenhofen has taken the right direction with this concept. Probably not without reason when you consider the international comparison: In many cities around the world, such as Melbourne or Belgium, free local transport is offered as an attractive option to promote public transport and reduce environmental impact. The idea of free local transport is also becoming increasingly popular in Germany, which makes the city of Pfaffenhofen's decision even more understandable.

Overall, Pfaffenhofen shows with its modern, flexible mobility strategy that it also offers innovative solutions in rural areas to meet the needs of the population. One can only congratulate and look forward to the coming developments!
