Pfaffenhofen in 125th place: Cyclists are calling for more security and fun!
The cyclists in Pfaffenhofen can look forward to small progress, but the current survey of the ADFC leaves no doubt that there is still a lot to do. According to the results, which were published in the Donaukurier, the city in the bicycle climate test shows the 125th place of a total of 429 cities 20,000 and 50,000 inhabitants. In the evaluation, it is only enough for an overall grade of 3.7 - this is a clear "sufficient" in the school sense.
In autumn 2024, 106 cyclists were interviewed to raise their experiences. The feedback shows that almost half of the participants perceive cycling as stressful and not as a pleasant leisure activity. In addition, 54% of the respondents do not feel taken seriously as cyclists. The survey, which is carried out every two years and is financed by the Federal Ministry of Transport, also reveals that 55% of the cyclists feel at risk and 52% overtake over too close through vehicles.
The challenge of the cycling infrastructure
The infrastructure remains a big topic. The ADFC calls for more separate and consistent bike paths to ensure both security and comfort for all cyclists. The new traffic development plan "Mia San 30" should help here. This includes the establishment of bicycle streets and Tempo 30 zones in Pfaffenhofen. However, the survey results show that many cyclists have the feeling that hardly anything has been done for cycling lately - 54% are correct here.
Overall, satisfaction with the conditions for cyclists in Pfaffenhofen has been mixed. While the ADFC bicycle climate test provides numerous valuable feedback, it remains to be seen how the city reacts to the critical voices. It is to be hoped that the results will serve as impetus to concrete improvements in order to make cycling in the city more pleasant and safer.
A look into the future
The next ADFC bicycle climate test starts on September 1, 2024 and will be held by the end of November. This test is one of the greatest surveys of bicycle friendliness in Germany and will again provide important data in Pfaffenhofen. In 2022, according to [ADFC] (https://www.adfc.de/pressemitteigteilung/terminnännis-am-1-september-startet-der-adfc-bicycle climate-test-2024), over 245,000 participants took part in the survey, a sign of the high interest in better wheel conditions.
The results from the upcoming survey will be presented in spring 2025 and are just a further step on the way to improve cyclists in Pfaffenhofen. If the city seriously devotes itself to the challenges of cyclists, a positive development in cycling can arise - but the ball now lies with the decision -makers.
