AI for inclusion: New workplace opened in Kaufbeuren!

In Kaufbeuren, a lot is currently happening in the field of inclusion and digitization. The research project "Enaible", which is carried out at the Institute for Data-optimized production of the Kempten University of Applied Sciences, aims to develop a AI-supported workplace for people with impairment in the assembly group. The presentation of this innovative project took place in the Wertachtal workshops, where the official partners, including Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu-Kaufbeuren e.V., were also represented. Merkur, if not only to automate the aim of this project, but also to enable people, actively actively in working life to participate.

The project, which is funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation, takes a total of six months. Researchers at the Institute for data -optimized production, including 20 scientific employees and two professors, are tinkering with innovative solutions. The focus is on the development of a traffic light system for quality control of screw packs, which is intended to help promote the independence of employees in the Wertachtal workshops. Challenges such as image quality, lighting and defective AI units had to be mastered. The Lebenshilfe added that current control systems are usually taken over by the group management, which restricts the inclusion of people with impairment.

an inclusive workplace

The team led by project manager Thomas Jung and operative director Anja Limmer aims to create an inclusive workplace that creates the technical challenges creatively. Future prototype test runs are already planned to check the functionality and user-friendliness of the AI system.

In the long term, the participants want to implement automated learning processes that enable employees to carry out a wide variety of quality controls independently. "This shows how technological progress can promote the participation and self-determination of people with impairment," says Lebenshilfe Ostallgäu-Kaufbeuren.

The role of artificial intelligence

artificial intelligence becomes increasingly important in today's working world, as is a report by Acatech . AI can not only automate processes, but also significantly improve the participation and equal opportunities for people with physical, mental or psychological impairments. Individual adjustments to the needs of those affected are of great importance to meet new work environment.

The experiences from the “Enaible” project not only offer an insight into technological innovations, but also show how such a development leads to more self -determination and active participation. With the support of AI technologies, an exciting chapter in the integration of people with impairments is opened into the world of work.
