Warning of severe weather: continuous rain threatens flooding in Oberallgäu!
The German Weather Service has issued an urgent warning for the southern Oberallgäu: persistent rain is expected from Monday, July 7th, 6 p.m. to Tuesday, July 8th, 4 p.m. The amount of precipitation can be between 30 and 40 liters per square meter. In the traffic jams there could even be up to 50 liters, as Merkur reports.
These extreme weather conditions bring with them some risks. Roads and underpasses may be flooded and it is advisable to avoid these areas. In addition, the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) issues an official storm warning warning of the possible consequences of continuous rain. In particular, the risk of landslides should not be underestimated, which results in a red warning level Glaktuell.
Recommended precautions
The BBK recommends closing all windows and doors and preparing for the weather-related inconveniences. You should also be careful on roads and avoid affected sections. The warning not only applies to the Allgäu, but also has an impact on large parts of the Oberbergisches Kreis, where similar amounts of precipitation are expected Glaktuell.
The weather situation is caused by a large low that is moving from the northwest into the center of Germany. There had already been a lot of rain at that time, so the population is asked to keep an eye on weather developments. Information about the current warnings is available around the clock - be it via Unwetterzentrale or other meteorological services.
