Bolsterlang Fire Department moves into its new home – big inauguration celebration!

A new splendor for the Bolsterlang fire department: After two years of construction, the new fire station has been shining in all its splendor since June 12, 2025. The new building, which was completed immediately after the 150th anniversary of the Bolsterlang Volunteer Fire Department, now meets all modern requirements for operations and technology. At the inauguration, Mayor Rolf Walter emphasized the essential role of a functional fire station for the protection of citizens and the safety of the community. With a total cost of 2.6 million euros, of which 121,000 euros was provided through state funding, a modern home has been created for the local fire department.

The new tool house not only offers space for two emergency vehicles and a trailer with a portable pump, but also numerous practical rooms. From a washroom and sanitary facilities to a meeting and training room - everything the fire department needs for its important work is available here. Particular attention was paid to additional usage options, which is why women's toilets and a separate side entrance were also integrated. The fire department itself generously invested 3,000 hours of work in building and furnishing a “Stüble” and a workshop.

Festive inauguration on the weekend

The official inauguration of the new fire station took place on the weekend of June 7th and 8th, 2025. A parade led the celebrants from the old to the new location on Flurstrasse. The highlights were the greetings from Oberallgäu District Administrator Indra Baier-Müller and Mayor Rolf Walter, accompanied by a festive church service and the blessing of the new building. The Bolsterlang music band provided the musical accompaniment in the afternoon, while the fire department provided food, drinks, coffee and cake.

In the following days, the fire department offered tours of the new equipment house and the almost completed construction yard, which is in the same phase with a budget of 1.5 million euros. This construction yard will house the control and monitoring system for the municipal water supply.

A centuries-long tradition

The roots of the fire department go back to Roman times, as documented on the Wikipedia page on the history of the fire department. Until the Middle Ages, communities were obliged to organize fire protection measures, and by the 14th century households were already required to have water available in case of emergencies. Currently, the Bolsterlang Volunteer Fire Department not only stands for tradition, but also for state-of-the-art fire protection and an active contribution to the safety of people in the region.

The festival on Sunday, June 8th, offered another highlight with a morning pint and performances by the “fire brigade musicians”. The children didn't miss out either: bouncy castles and rides in the fire engine aroused their enthusiasm. With a varied program and free entry, the village festival was a complete success and was very well received regardless of the weather.

This shows once again that the Bolsterlang fire department is not only well prepared for emergencies, but also plays a key role in community life. This new chapter in the history of the fire department is another step towards an even stronger community and reliable protection for all citizens in Bolsterlang.
