Tower falcons welcome! Fire brigade ensures new home in Hersbruck

Hersbruck, Deutschland - In the picturesque city center of Hersbruck there was recently a very special event that not only aroused the interest of the citizens, but also set a sign of nature conservation. The Hersbruck volunteer fire brigade swung the toolbox and mounted a nesting box at the town hall tower. In this campaign there were numerous passers -by, especially families with children, witnesses to a small ecological miracle. Fire brigade commander Armin Steinbauer had launched the project to offer a new home family a new home and at the same time promote ecological balance in the city.

A gratifying side effect of this measure is to reduce the pigeon population in the city center. With the help of modern nesting box technology, an optimal habitat for these fascinating birds could be created. The firefighters received support from Jochen Weinmann , the device manager, and Thomas Prechtel , the deputy building manager. Mayor Robert Ilg and his deputy Peter Ustalt were also enthusiastic and visited the assembly of the nesting box.

But why in particular tower falcons? These charming birds are cultural successors who find natural nesting places in rock niches and caves. Many of them also breed in church towers or other high buildings, and this is exactly where the nesting box comes into play. The lack of natural nesting places also affects the tower falcons, which is why these special boxes are so important. These should be mounted on the south or east side of buildings in order to offer the birds optimal living conditions. An additional recommended slatted frame as a stem offers old birds and helps the young birds with their first flight attempts.

The nabu actively campaigns for the protection of birds, since many species are threatened. This also includes promoting nesting opportunities in urban rooms. In Hersbruck, the commitment of the fire brigade and the city officials become a model for other communities and shows how a simple measure can have great positive effects.

a cultural event

The assembly of the nesting box was also a small attraction for many visitors. Many stopped to take pictures and explain to their children why tower falcons are allowed to move in at the town hall tower. Such actions not only contribute to information about local animal species, but also bring together the community and strengthen awareness of the environment.

Overall, this project shows how important the interaction of the fire brigade, city administration and the citizens is in order to make a difference for nature. And who knows, maybe the first tower falcons will soon move to their new home and ensure a spectacular sight over Hersbruck. NN reports on this pleasant development and we are excited to see how the project continues.
