New life for nature: Feldraine in the Nuremberg region are blooming!

Something is happening in the areas of nature conservation and agriculture in the Nuremberg region. Since 2023, the project to redevelop Feldraine has been pushed forward here in order to optimize habitats and network existing biotopes through targeted measures. The aim of the project is to create over one hectare of new field land by the end of 2024. You rely on your own mix Regional seeds, which has been collected for over 15 years from 22 different areas of origin.

Particularly important for implementation are the annual workshops in which farmers can exchange their experiences and thus benefit from each other. This form of knowledge transfer is part of a comprehensive information campaign, which is also supported by information signs on every project field.

Monitoring and outlook

From 2025 onwards, monitoring of the measures will also be carried out, which will also focus on observations of various species such as partridges, field larks and whinchats. In order to optimize care management, the regional seeds are not only used on arable land, but also serve to improve existing crops.

The use of regional seeds offers several advantages. Not only is it adapted to local conditions, but it is also certified by the independent company QAL. This means you can be sure that the use of the mixture helps protect the environment and nature. The different mixture types such as Feldrain and Saum are ideal for perennial to permanent flowering strips in the cultivated landscape.

Funding and support

The project is financed by the Bayerische KulturLandStiftung as well as the Bavarian Nature Conservation Fund and the Otto and Therese Stumpf Foundation. The project duration extends from June 2023 to the end of 2025 for the first phase, followed by a second phase from 2026 to 2027. This includes, among other things, additional small measures such as reading cairns.
