Feldraine in the Nuremberg region: protect and experience nature!

A new swing for biodiversity in the Nuremberg region: With the project "Feldraine preserved, promote and establish", the Bavarian Cultural Land Foundation took an important step towards preserving our nature in 2023. Feldraine are these narrow strips that grow between our fields and are lush with grasses and herbs. These lively lines are not only an eye, but also a feel-good dream for countless living things. They offer insects a winter quarters, birds secure the necessary food and offer rabbits a hidden place. It's just a shame that these valuable habitats in the Bavarian agricultural landscape are becoming increasingly less common. But here in the Nuremberg region there is reason to hope!

At the upcoming field evening, which takes place on July 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the project is to be presented more precisely. All interested parties are invited to stop by and to find out about the goals and content of the project. Topics such as the definition of the field drain and the different plant species are on the program. In addition, the practical part is not neglected: two local project farmers report on their experiences and explain what can be done for the preservation of such areas. The event takes place near Vorra, where two project fields can also be visited. Registration is recommended to find all space.

practical experience and exchange

What makes things even more exciting? There is already a second appointment in autumn: On November 20, the conference “Feldraine - a cultural asset with opportunities and challenges for agriculture and nature conservation” will take place in Engelthal. Here, participants can deal with the topic from 9.30 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. and acquire further knowledge. The detailed program and all information can be found on the website of the Bavarian Kulturland Foundation. If you still have any questions or want to offer your space, you can contact Nathalie Ritter directly, who will be happy to support you by email or phone.

A comparable project also runs in Thuringia, where in early 2023 three new fields with a total area of 2.1 hectares were created in the Kyffhäuser region. There have long been rare such flowering, species -rich stripes that act as important biotopes. Of course, the goal here is also to promote existing biodiversity and to return something to nature through targeted sowing with regional wild herbs and grasses. Project manager Tobias Ehrhardt also emphasizes the need to maintain the existing structures while new ones are created. The project in Thuringia will be active until 2026 and is funded by the federal program biological diversity - a clear proof that it is "there is something"!

For all nature lovers there is also a photo competition that runs until October 31, 2023 and focuses on the flower and insect-rich field drain. An excellent incentive to actively deal with nature and capture the beauty of the regional flora and fauna.

summarized it is shown that it is going forward on different fronts. The projects in Bavaria and Thuringia prove that a lot can be achieved through initiative, commitment and cooperation between municipalities, agricultural companies and nature conservation organizations. We can be excited to see what positive effects will bring with them in the coming years - and together preserve the beauties of nature!
