Fireworks accident in Rennertshofen: Children set the shelter on fire!
A summer afternoon in the community of Rennertshofen took an unexpected turn on June 11, 2025. At 12:57 p.m. the fire departments from various districts, including Rennertshofen, Bertoldsheim, Burgheim, Steppberg and Neuburg an der Donau, were alerted. The reason? Two children, a 12-year-old and an 8-year-old, had been playing around with fireworks.
The older of the two lit a flare and left it on a Euro pallet in a shelter. Shortly afterwards, the children left the scene without paying any further attention to the dangerous situation. A short time later, the pallets ignited and a fire spread to the shelter, causing property damage of around 7,000 euros. Fortunately, there was no material damage and there were no injuries. These incidents demonstrate once again how playing around with fire can quickly become a serious danger and highlight the need for fire safety measures.
Point out the dangers of flammable play
Fireworks are not the only potential risks that can lead to fires. According to the Fire protection headquarters Fire-hazardous work is one of the most common causes of fire. These activities, such as welding or soldering, are often carried out by skilled personnel, but caution is also required in hobby areas. Hot glue guns and soldering irons can quickly become a source of fire if used improperly.
In the private sector, it is important that such work is only carried out by trained personnel. These specialists have the necessary know-how to quickly identify potential dangers. In everyday life, parents should ensure that their children never play with fireworks or similar devices unsupervised.
Prevention is better than extinguishing!
The Federal Institute for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief highlights that inadequate fire protection and careless behavior are common causes of fires. The quality of fire protection and the type of materials used play an important role. Preventative measures, such as installing and regularly servicing smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, can be life-saving.
An important feature of fire protection is training the population. Many people don't know what to do in the event of a fire. “Turn off the energy source, smother the fire with a lid and close windows to reduce the oxygen supply,” are the recommendations in the event of a fire.
This incident in Rennertshofen shows how quickly a harmless game can become a source of danger. It is everyone's responsibility to increase safety and prevent fires through education and preventative measures. Let us work together to ensure that such negligence does not happen again.
