On Tuesday evening, June 17th, dramatic scenes took place in Neu-Ulm. At around 7:30 p.m. there was a physical altercation between several road users at the intersection of Albrecht-Dürer-Straße/Hartweg in the Offenhausen district. The trigger was a shockingly common situation: two cars blocked the intersection because the drivers were unwilling to back up. A 21-year-old driver was sitting in one of the blocking vehicles and was later the target of an attack. The other car belonged to a 34-year-old uninvolved witness who became involved in the altercation.
The situation escalated frighteningly when two other road users, aged 24 and 54, who were hindered by the blockade, attacked the 21-year-old driver. The aggressors hit and kicked him. The threatened driver responded in a desperate defense with a shock rod that he took out of his trunk. There were exchanges of violence and physical violence as passers-by watched the scene and some even took out their cell phones. A witness filmed the fight and later handed the footage over to the police. They arrived on site and were able to identify those involved, while the suspected murder weapon was seized. Initial statements indicate that the opponents did not know each other before the incident, which makes finding the cause even more complicated. The dispute resulted solely from the tense traffic situation at the intersection Augsburger Allgemeine reported.

The Neu-Ulm police station has started an investigation into mutual grievous bodily harm. Comprehensive interrogations of all those involved are pending in order to clarify everything that happened, reports Ulm News. This dispute highlights an increasing problem in road traffic that cannot only be observed in Neu-Ulm.
A growing aggressiveness in traffic
A recent road safety report has highlighted a worrying trend in road users being perceived as increasingly reckless and aggressive. According to a study by insurers' accident research (UDV), 56% of those surveyed said they drove faster when they were angry. A comparison with past surveys shows a worrying deterioration in people's attitudes towards traffic - 50% of participants feel the need to vent in traffic. That is almost twice as many as a few years ago. These developments could explain why situations like those in Neu-Ulm are increasingly turning into violence, according to the analysis RBB24.
In summary, it appears that the traffic situation is not only becoming an everyday nuisance, but in some cases an explosive agent for violence.
