Shock in Neu-Ulm: Wirtshaus Silberwald closed forever!

There are always surprising twists and turns in gastronomy, but what came to a head at the Silberwald inn in Neu-Ulm came unexpectedly for many regular guests. On Tuesday, restaurateur Henry Glinka announced on social media that the popular eatery would be permanently closed. The reasons for this decision are personal and are not elaborated further by Glinka. “Please respect my personal matter,” he said in his post, which caused incomprehension and shock among many residents and guests, such as Augsburger Allgemeine reported.

The Wirtshaus Silberwald, known for its Bavarian-Swabian cuisine, attracted a mixed audience with its cozy atmosphere and an inviting beer garden for 400 guests. Popular dishes such as ribs, cordon bleu and schnitzel were very popular, and the friendly staff went above and beyond to ensure guests had a pleasant stay. The cuisine was awarded 4.3 stars on Google in recent reviews, while prices per person were between 10 and 20 euros. Where many citizens enjoyed spending a fine evening, there is now a big question mark over the future of the restaurant.

A quick review

Henry Glinka took over the inn in the summer of 2020, at a time that was not easy for the catering industry. Glinka previously ran another restaurant in the Orange Hotel, but gave it up after just eight months due to a lack of staff and personal reasons. After his retirement, Wolfgang Kling took over the restaurant in the Orange Hotel, but he is no longer active there either.

News of the closure came just a short time after a new menu for the week was released. This paved the way for many cherished hopes of a return of the popular pub, but the reality is now different. The question also remains open as to what will become of the traditional inn. Let's wait for more information and hope that the Silver Forest doesn't disappear from the scene forever.

Reactions from the population

A certain sadness remains on the part of the regular guests and residents who were often guests in the Silberwald. “I often went there with friends, now it’s all over,” is one of the most common responses. You can literally feel the sadness and disappointment. One last night in the Silver Forest? It remains to be seen whether Henry Glinka and his team will potentially make a fresh start in the future, or whether the closure will be permanent. With this closure, a piece of Bavarian-Swabian gastronomy culture has been lost.
