Museum of Fine Arts in Oberfahlheim closes in July!
There will soon be less to admire in the Neu-Ulm district, as the Museum of Fine Arts in Oberfahlheim is closing its doors for extensive renovation work. The work will begin at the end of June or beginning of July and will entail a number of changes, including repairing and repainting the west facade, which impresses with a classicist gable. A large project that does not stop the ongoing program guarantees undisturbed museum operations, despite the scaffolding that has been erected.
The current special exhibitions “Terrain” by Christine Reiter and “Zeit(t)räume” by Gisela Hoßfeld-Weber end early on July 13th. A final visit is worthwhile not only because of the exciting works of art, but also to take part in several accompanying events. These range from an interactive museum visit for older adults on June 27th to a children's art workshop on June 28th.
Experience art and events
The organizational details of the last chance to enjoy art before the renovation are clear: No registration is necessary for the interactive museum visit, while for the art workshop on Saturday, which is suitable for children aged 6 and over, advance registration is required two days in advance by calling 0731 7040-42014 or by email to kreismuseen@landkreis-nu.de. The workshop costs 5 euros.
Particularly interesting is the musical reading by the Ulm Authors Association on July 6th and the “Art Enjoyment and Apéro” event with Christine Reiter on July 8th, which starts at 6:30 p.m. After the renovation, which focuses on maintenance and restoration of the windows, the museum will reopen its doors on August 13th with two new exhibitions.
A look beyond the borders
Another example of the importance of collections in the art world is the Museum Berggruen in Berlin, which goes on an exhibition tour with masterpieces by Picasso, Matisse and Cézanne. This tour will include stops in Japan, China and France and will close the Stüler building on September 5, 2022 for three years for basic repairs. The full opening is planned for 2025. Meanwhile, the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection remains open and offers an attractive view of artistic intricacies.
The renovation includes comprehensive measures such as facade and roof renovation, technical updates and improving accessibility. A topic that is becoming increasingly important these days - after all, art should be accessible to everyone.
Accessibility in museums
Accessibility is not only a priority at Museum Berggruen. The Cultural History Museum in Rostock and numerous other museums in Germany offer barrier-free access and special services for people with disabilities. Rental wheelchairs and mobile seating are available here, and tours are also offered in sign language. These developments are important steps towards an inclusive society in which culture can be experienced by everyone.
The artists and cultural initiatives in Bavaria, Berlin and beyond are aware: Art is an elixir of life and a path to encounter - and everyone should be able to participate in it!
