Bus driver gets stuck in the forest with his articulated bus: 1500 euros in damage!
On the night of Friday to Saturday, an unusual incident occurred in a forest near Schwindegg, in the Mühldorf am Inn district: a 73-year-old bus driver got stuck in his articulated bus. The driver, who was on a transfer trip without passengers, had previously missed a motorway exit towards Passau. His navigation device then directed him to an unsuitable bypass route through the forest, which was more designed for cars, as [augsburger- Allgemeine.de](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/bayern/landkreis-muehldorf-am-inn-busfahrer-bleibt-im-wald-stecken-110648744) reports.
As it turned out, the articulated bus was too heavy for the soft surface, causing the driver to eventually lose control. Shortly before midnight, the bus driver alerted the police after establishing his location at a nearby house. The officers first had to determine the location of the driver and the bus in the dense forest, which turned out to be not that easy.
Recovery of the bus
On Saturday, the forest owner finally came into play and was able to free the articulated bus from its predicament. The bus, which belongs to a private transport company and is part of the rail replacement service between Mühldorf and Munich, showed some damage when it was rescued. The vehicle had suffered numerous scratches and a window was broken; the exact damage is currently being determined. However, the forest owner has already reported land and tree damage of around 1,500 euros, while the amount of damage to the articulated bus remains unknown, as br.de states.
The most recent events come at a time when the train route between Munich and Mühldorf is closed due to signal box work. This modernization work will last until September 15th, which makes the use of rail replacement transport particularly popular. The circumstances in which the bus driver got stuck will certainly be the talk of the local news for some time to come.
Against this background, we can only hope that future journeys will be carried out without further complications and that the navigation device will make better decisions next time. After all, driving should be associated with a good bit of relaxation and not with unexpected adventures.
