Trailblazers gather in Miltenberg: future of mountain bike trails!

The second edition of the DIMB Trailbuilder Days recently took place in Miltenberg, a charming place between Odenwald and Spessart. On October 27, 2025, around 60 experienced trail builders from all over Germany gathered there. The goal of this meeting was to discuss legalization and trail construction. It doesn't seem to be easy, because there are a lot of hurdles to overcome - from discussions with foresters to the necessary administrative procedures. That reports that Bike Magazine.

The event built on the first meeting last year in Treuchtlingen. The MIL1 trail had developed into a large network. A highlight of this year's event was the presentation by a representative of a planning office who provided information about successful project developments. Stories from places like Freiburg, Graubünden and the Würmtrails near Munich also found their way into the lively discussions.

Practical workshops and the excursion

Workshops and panel discussions were held in the Citizens' Hall of the Old Town Hall, which not only dealt with theoretical aspects, but also with practical solutions. The participants had the opportunity to exchange their knowledge and experiences. The event was rounded off with an excursion to the Odenwald trail network, where participants had the opportunity to directly apply and experience what they had learned.

The DIMB has also announced practical trail construction offers for the coming year. Courses on approval procedures, access rights and sustainable trail construction are planned. The exact dates for 2026 should be published promptly on the website DIMB be published. This could be important for many mountain bike enthusiasts as part of the “Mythos Schwäbische Alb” initiative, which is pushing forward the legalization and promotion of trails in the region.

Legalization projects and challenges

The committed mountain bike interest group in Reutlingen and Tübingen has committed itself to the legalization of mountain bike trails and is repeatedly struggling with bureaucratic hurdles, as in the article by DIMB IG Reutlingen Tübingen described. Despite an encouraging growth rate of 22%, progress in developing new routes is often slow and laborious. Working with the mayors in the region is challenging, especially given their different interests and tasks.

A ray of hope: In 2023, Mayor Keck approved 50 trails. But there is still a lot of work to be done, especially now that the district is intervening in trail legalization. It is to be hoped that the region will not miss opportunities again, as has been repeatedly noted in the past.

In conclusion, as part of a Germany-wide movement, trail owners face the challenge of overcoming social and political hurdles. The more successful construction and maintenance of trails not only offers sporting opportunities, but also prospects for regional tourism and the community.
